    Beartooth Highway

Has anyone been on the Beartooth Highway lately? Iím thinking of going there right after Labor Day and wondering what shape the road is in? I heard there was some construction earlier this summer, with parts of the road torn up.
    Thanks for any info.

That's a good question thinking someone on here has been on that road this year. Been a couple of years for me but look forward to ride it again in the future.

According to the road report as of today, falling rock is all listed, no construction. Better hurry though, it was 89 last week and 57 today.

Foch, thanks, I saw that on the Montana highway web page. I’ve been watching it for a couple of weeks now and except for the date nothing seems to change. Not sure it’s reliable.

However, I’m leavin for Beartooth in a couple of days. Will run up the east side of the Bighorn National Forest then cross that from east to west. Head down to Cody from Lovell, then north to Chief Joseph Highway. Take that to Beartooth Highway headed east (in late afternoon) to Red Lodge. The next day head west on the Beartooth Highway to Yellowstone National Park. Spend two nights there, then head south through the Grand Tetons and Jackson Hole, down along the Snake River to Alpine, Wy. Then south to Fort Bridger and on south through Flaming Gorge to Vernal, Utah. From there we’ll cut south to Grand Junction and start back east again through Delta, Colorado. Through Carbondale, Aspen, over Independence Pass, then either through Leadville or Buena Vista for the final leg back home to the front range of Colorado. Knock on wood, Mother Nature looks like she’s in a kind mood for this 8 day trip.

Just got back from 8 days on the road.

FYI, the Montana road report is useless. Beartooth had a long stretch torn up and the associated wait time to be led through one lane of dirt. We were lucky, it didn’t rain on either crossing of Beartooth, so it wasn’t mud.

Yellowstone had several roads torn up with long waits to be led through long stretches of slow dirt road in a dust cloud.

Still, the crappy sections were soon forgotten. We avoided interstate highways wherever possible. Being out on two wheels with lots of country roads day after day beats just about anything else.
