Loudest slip-ons with good sound

I used to own a Deuce- it had V&H longshots with no baffles. It was loud, but sounded great. You could also feel the exhaust compression from about 8-10 feet behind the bike. It would blow my mulch when I backed up on the sidewalk at home.
My new street glide has stock pipes, de-catted. Sounds very muffled and you can barely feel compression from 1 foot behind it. I really want that sound back...
What slip-ons do you recommend to get a great, and loud sound like that? I Want it loud - bordering on obnoxious!! :)

Be careful.... with a decat AND aftermarket slip-ons... you have a lot of freed up airlfow on the exhaust. Harleys run lean to begin with and I would seriously consider adding a tuner or at least the FL-VIED-10 to richen it up a bit if you can't swing a tuner right off the bat. You're gonna need something....she is gonna run a lot leaner than she already is.

Yes, I figure I will have to get a tuner when I go any further. I was thinking it could probably do slip-ons without a tuner, but will definitely need one when I get A/C changed out.

Just adding slip-ons with a de-cat header would warrant a tuner IMHO.... Stock header and slip-ons would be ok.. but without the cat... I would at least run a FL-VIED-10 for peace of mind. It will richen up the AFR enough ( about 6% max ) to get you by until you get a tuner.

Thanks Spazz, I will try to do it all at once so I don't get in a bad situation. The V&H ProPipe is a total pipe replacement, and not a slip on- correct?

Yes.. complete system can be purchased at www.ironacesspeedshop.com for $584 shipped. Contact Lindsey.... she is on the forums and awesome to work with. BEST PRICES YOU WILL FIND.

they have a variety of pipes to choose from as well for great prices

Im sure you can get v/h slip ons... just never looked intod them

I have to admit the Pro Pipe is very nice, as I just got mine installed. I had purchased mine before dealing with Lindsey at IronAces, but she has great customer service and great prices, as I have bought a couple things from her and will do more business in the future.

For that price there is no reason to look at slip-ons..almost the same price. Have you had any experience with V&H Big Shot pipes? Those look a lot like the Long Shots I had before.

This will be a personal preference for you... yes they sound good.. but, what gives you better performance?

Do you want looks, performance or sound? This is the key question that muct be answered by YOU.

As a rule of thumb.... 2-1 exhaust is the best performance you can buy. 2-1-2 gives you performance AND looks AND sound ( depending on YOUR choice ) but can be costly if you upgrade the header. 2-2 is true dual exhaust... looks and sound are key here...

So to answer your question... Long shots are a 2-2 system... sounds and looks great, but falls a little short on performance.

Now don't get me wrong.... There is NOT a HUGE gap in performance between the choices, but dyno numbers have proven this to true and sometimes and in some cases, significant. Every person has to make that personal choice for looks, sound and/or performance...which is most important to YOU is what counts.

For me, sound is #1, since there is really very little performance difference..plus, I am not racing this bike or anything. Performance is #2. Looks is last on the list of priorities for me. I would of course like all 3 to be good. I like the performance of a 2-1, and the sound is good also. I am a little concerned with how the SG will look without a pipe on the left. Probably won't notice if you have extended bags, but may with stock setup. Never really looked at one with that setup so maybe it is not an issue at all. I have a friend with a RoadKing Police that has hard bags and a 2-1 exhaust. I may give it a more in depth look next time I see him. His bike sounds good to me..a deep rumble with good volume..So, I will probably go that route when I obtain the funding. :)

That is why I went with the H-D Street Cannons. They sound great with the stock head pipes and for me, are loud enough to require ear plugs when I ride. H-D has spent millions of dollars on the sound and has even attempted to get a Trademark on it. Watch this: The-Harley-Sound

I would do the StreetCannons, but I have already de-catted my pipe and am worried that they will sound awful from what I have read here.

I like the Rush System front to back. It's a bit loud for the radio but I never use it anyway.

Decatted head pipes and RH 4" sound get better every mile I ride

New end caps arrived too

If I stay with the stock header and stock air clean and go the Street Cannon route, do I need a tuner? Or would I at least need the FL-ViED-10? Thanks!
