Hello fella's, I blew my stock speakers and Harley replaced them for free (Labor costs). So i upgraded to the "Boom Audio" speakers and I am unimpressed with the sound. Has anyone compared them to hogtunes or any other brand? Also if I just installed an amp on them would then sound cleaner? And last, I was thinking on getting the J&M Rokker series kit that comes with the amp but if I am going to get the same quality of sound I don't want to front the money. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I cannot personally speak to the sound quality of the Boom Audio in comparison to other brands on the market but I have heard from others that they too were not impressed with the system. You probably would get 'better' sound by adding an AMP but whether it would increase the output quality to the level you'd prefer remains to be seen. I can say that everyone we have worked with that has gone with J&M ROKKER Series Kits has been very happy with the system.

Hopefully this help!

IronAces! What kinda deal would ya'll swing me? I can pay cash unfortunately I can't travel to NC to give it to you.

You can get a much better speaker for half the price of the JMs.. Also an amp will help push them more than your head unit power

I don't want to keep buying and trying speakers. That gets costly. I was hoping my boom audio would.work fine with just an amp. What do you run Badbike?

Different strokes for different folks. I have the boom speakers with the boom amp and it is just right for me. Sure I am not the guy pulling onto main street blaring my stereo for everyone to hear but it is load enough that when I am on the highway I can crank it up and enjoy the tunes.

Thanks guys, guess im shopping for an amp this week.

I have the j&m 250 w amp and it works real good. Be careful though not to crank the amp itself all the way up when installing. It can blow your speakers. I may get j&m to be a sponsor here. They have great customer service :)

The J&M speakers with amp? Like the rokker series kit that IronAces sells?

Guys i just installed a set of 7.25 rokker xt's in my bike ,I gotta say I am dissappointed in the sound not near as crisp and clear as the original 5.25's..Err and they cost me a pile maybe i need an amp to drive them and they will sound better? If a amp dont fix them i am going to set them up on a stump and take a video of me shooting them with a 12ga and post it on youtube. So everyone can see how good they are....

I would try the amp for sure. I added the hogtunes with the amp and they gave me the loud crisp sound I was looking for. I would like to add the 7.25 to the faring lowers for some bass.

Here's my 2 cents. Bought SG last year and was not happy with the sound system or the windshield. I tried a few different windshields and surprisingly found the best upgrade for the sound system was a shield that was wider than stock. One that that is as wide as the speakers. With the wind not going over top of them I could suddenly hear my stereo way better, especially at high speeds. It was an amazing difference. Also way better wind coverage for myself and my passenger. I bought my shield from

Great people and service.
I also did upgrade my speakers to the JM Rokkers and I'm very happy now. Might add an amp this year, buts its probably not necessary.

THis would be a good alternative for longer rides. I like the low profile look of my stock windshield. I think i am going to try an amp also in the next month or so. I will inform everyone on the sound difference that I see. I'm pretty sure i can hook any marine grade amp up but I would like to keep with what works. Unfortunately the Boom Audio amp runs $500 or more dollars but I plan on also putting speaker lids in. Thanks for the input Panhead.

Memphis audio Mclass 6.5" in the fairing, cycle sounds lids with Memphis mclass 6x9s and a Memphis audio 400.4 digital amp. On my new build I am going with six 6.5" in the RG fairing, two 400.4 digital Memphis amps. Sinister top flight lids with 6x9s and two jl audio 8" mid woofers in the bags.
