It is done: full V&H upgrade!

I'm going to be going this same route. I already have the pipes installed, and will add the high flow air filter that fits in the stock housing, and the FP3. Question though: Which HD part number is it for the air filter? I'm having a tough time figuring out which one is correct for the bike if I want to keep the stock housing.

Unless you really want to go with HD air breather, if not you can go with Arlen Ness Big Sucker like the one I am using.....OEM cover fits right over it.....I love the way it looks.

+ 1 on this setup with the Arlen Ness Big Sucker chrome back plate. Nice and smooth for air flow.

Question on the big sucker. I saw some pics and reviews on Amazon, but it sure seems like it sticks out quite a bit further than stock. Not sure I like that. Does it bug you guys and get in the way?

Is there a stage 1 Harley filter that fits in the stock housing, that doesn't stick out?

I don't feel it sticks out at all, are you referring to the rubber part? That's is necessary for the stock housing to fit. And doesn't bother whatsoever if it does as I don't really remember what stock setup feels like. I swapped mine out soon after I purchased my bike.

If you are worried about that then definitely seek for other air breather.....go with what you feel is right to you!

I hear you, and I really appreciate the recommendation. I did some additional research on the SE one, and somebody is saying you can only clean it twice, and then have to replace it? Is that really true? I take it the Big Sucker is a lifetime filter, right?

That's correct!

If you want to have better air flow and use OEM cover then try looking into K&N filter....also lifetime filter........

Fuel Moto www.fuelmotousa.com air cleaner kits come with a CNC machined aluminum powder coated backing plate, K&N style reusable filter, and uses the stock cover in the stock position. Installation takes 10 minutes and the price is right. Check them out. Several folks on the forum use them. Best bang for the buck IMO

I also have the FM intake and it's a good option. As a side note, I drilled a hole in mine, flipped the stock breather tube 180degrees, and ran it out the back to a remote catch can. There's a relatively large hole in the bottom of the backer plate to provide more air flow, but unfortunately blow by oil mist will accumulate down there and blow back on the bike. This isn't necessarily specific to the FM unit though. Just sharing my experience using it.
