OK guys, I need some help here.
After owning my bike for 3 months now I decided to setup a PIN for the security system on one of our frequent c o l d days we've been experiencing. I followed ALL the steps in both the 2014 owners manual and 2014 shop manual. I've tried it with both FOBS and just 1 FOB, I've tried the sequence slowly and fast and still just end up with the right turn signal flashing instead of the PIN screen on the speedo. I see from other forums I am not alone in duplicating failure in getting this solved. It shouldn't be this hard ! ! ! ! ! !

Anyone got an idea????????? :confused::confused::mad:

mojo: I'm having the same problem as you are, followed owners manual & service manual, I can't get to setup screen to change PIN, but I can enter existing PIN and start bike without FOB. Also looked up on you tube and followed there directions but still no go. I'll make a trip to my Harley dealer tomorrow & ask the Service Manager.
I agree it shouldn't be that hard.

Hi J,
thx for validating me to not be a complete moron! Another question for you:
I've heard factory default PIN is either 1-2-3-4-5 or the last 5 #'s of your VIN. Which is it??

My dealer sets them to a different numbers than that, the last time I talked to the tech he talked like there wasn't a factory default setting, that every dealer sets them to whatever number they want. He said that he sets it with his computer & can read it I think if the fob is present. Of course I'm sure there will be at least a 1/2 hour labor charge. His was my understanding if I remember correctly.

I'm frustrated enough to enjoy tomorrows 64 degrees and ride the 35 miles to my dealer and get them to do it or show me how. If I learn anything-I'll pass it along on this thread.

Went to local Harley Shop & he showed me how to set my PIN, What I was doing wrong was I was cycling the Ignition Switch & I should have been cycling the OFF/RUN Switch.
Basically I was not following the directions.
The 2014 is different than the 2013.

Thanks JMeadows
Took mine to the HD service Dept today. They connected a Digital device to the port inside the fuse area under the left side cover and set mine (NO CHARGE).
It's easy to see why everyone is so confused by the directions (below) They don't say OFF/ON Switch they clearly say IGNITION (step 2).

Hulkss, JMeadows-
Isn't this what we used to refer to as "the kill switch"? Right hand toggle next to start toggle??

Hulkss, Mojo:
My owners manual reads like Hulkss has posted, my service manual reads like mojo posted, mine works like the owners manual said, the service manual & the owners manual are different. The tech hooked mine up to his computer and set it that way first, then he went & got a new owners manual and went through it that way. Then showed me how to do it with the owners manual. He also set the PIN on my sons 2008 Rocked-C. There was no charge for any of this.

Thanks guys this was a learning experience.

SUCCESS ! ! ! Thanks guys for the clarification. Gosh I love this forum!!!

Hey, don't beat yourself up over this. I had a little issue setting my pin too. On about the 2nd day I had the bike I decided to change it from the 12345 pin that my dealer put in. I had to do it about 4 times to get it right. I finally figured out that the reason it did not take the first 3 times was because I was not doing it fast enough. By the time I got to the 4th time I had the process memorized and did not need to read it while I was doing it... sped things up! Quirky stuff, and has to be done exactly.

Had some trouble setting security pin, tried both owners manual and service manual guide with no success. Logged on to the forum and read the posts and nutted it the first time. (owners manual is the correct way) Thanks guys, I hope someday I'll be able to give someone a hand.

Perfect!

Perfect!

Here's the directions I have (2014). From the comments I assume they are OK as they say to cycle the OFF/RUN switch.

Thanks very much for the info. I wrote my new pin in the owners manual, but misplaced the manual during a move. The recover pin process worked perfectly. Thanks!

Also, I just joined the forum for acces to the jpg, but I will be on this site a lot. Thanks

The dealer I bought my scoot from ran through the pin set up and set the pin when he was giving me orientation of the controls and functions.

My 2015 SGS Factory Pin

My factory pin was 00000. Changed it (obviously) and have not had any problems with the procedures.

Going to change mine this weekend.. Not exactly secure but easy on this old guy to remember 5 like digits
