Wrong Trickle Charger?

Yesterday I was talking with a parts guy at the local HD dealer. Somehow we got on the subject of trickle charging. He told me that the Battery Tender brand trickle charger is not capable of fully charging the batteries in newer HD's. In most cases I would think he was just trying to get me to buy HD branded parts but in the past this guy has been pretty open about buying elsewhere.

I've tried searching through the forums on here and the internet but haven't found much. Is there any truth to this?

I should add I'm currently using this 3 A tender.

If a tender keeps the battery charged enough to start the bike I'd be OK with that. That is all I need to start and go.

I have the small HD amp trickle charger. It works fine.

Unless you need to charge you battery, a trickle charger is all you need.
