IM BAFFLED- last year I got a ss 106 big bore with Andrews 54 cams and every since im having starting issues only sometimes. one day I can go out and she starts right up then ill ride it stop and try to start and it turns over but I have to try like 3 or 4 times before it will start its really embarrsing pulling up on a show bike and when I go to leave it barley starts does anybody have any suggestion my builder has tried a few things with no luck. please help before I sell this thing and my wife kills me

Sorry my friend....

Is it sluggish to turn over, or just not firing off?

my initial thoughts are check battery and starter, then fuel at injector, good plug wire connections

I am also leaning to the ACR now

I have also heard of others having issues with wiring the ACR on the proper pin connector number for the correct year model stock setup. Aslo, Tuner set up, depending on tuner brand, that software defaults to "ACR off", you must manually indicate "ACR on" during the tuner setup.

I don't have acrs and Im running pcv what about the compensater?

I am not a expert HD mech by any means, IMO, I think those parts would give symptoms while running, not starting. You stated in your first post that sometimes it starts on first attempt and sometimes 3 attempts. I am assuming once its started and running, the motor runs as advertised. I would inspect every electrical connection that was touched for connectivity and tightness, corrosion, proper seating of plugs and so on. I know its tough to troubleshoot something intermittent. I am just throwing ideas at you.

I had to replace the comp in my 2010, does it make a big klunk or kick back on the starter? That would be a symptom of a bad comp.

once started it runs awesome its only restarts when I have issues.
I appreciate everybody chiming in on my problem im so frustrated iv thought about trading it in or selling it but I know its gotta be something easy to fix

If you are getting some kickback and don't have compression releases you should have them. That could be what your issue is, or at least some of it. Compensators are known to need replacing around 30000 miles on built motors.

That's right the 96" motor did not have compression release.
I guess the options are go to a stronger CCA battery or have compression releases installed.

In the years I have spent wrenching Harley's and Hot Rods I have learned the symptoms you describe usually suggest either electrical or fuel management issues.
Over the years I have seen several coil failures that exhibit the exact symptoms you descrbe. Coil works when cold but when it heats up not so much. Also check wires, plugs, and the obvious including a strong spark at the plug. Also check your timing.
Make sure the fuel is high octane which keeps engine temps lower. Make sure there is adequate fuel pressure at injector.
Next time it happens crack the fuel cap to let additional air into the tank see if that helps.

The Andrews 54 has enough overlap to siphon off a bit of the 10.2 static compression so I don't think that compression releases are the issue because you say the starter turns the motor freely.
