Hey Guys, Question on a clutch adjustment for my 2014 Street Glide with a Hyd. clutch. I have searched a couple videos and all I see is an adjustment for a cable operated clutch, so I look in my link for the 2014 Street Glide Service manual and it lists clutch adjustment on page 1-31, however 1-31 is not in the service manual. It goes from 1-30 to 1-32. So my question is:
Does a Hydraulic clutch on a Harley require the same internal adjustment as a cable operated clutch? And, what is the procedure? I notice in the cable type adjustment, they always back the cable off completely before adjustments are made, however, you can't back anything off with the Hydraulic clutch. I have about 9K miles on my bike now and it seems as the release point has moved to the very end of the stroke of the lever, Or, it has to be almost all the way out before it fully engages. With a cable style clutch I would say to put some free play in the cable, but with the hydraulic clutch I'm not sure what to do.

Any ideas or someone who has done this?

Thanks

There's no adjustment on hydraulic clutches. There could be air in the system in which case you would need to bleed it. Another possibility is that your clutch plates are worn.

So if I understand correctly, There is no adjustment for the Hydraulically activated clutches? There is no internal adjustment under the derby cover? I'm a rookie on the Harley, I know on a car, there are no adjustments, just didn't know on the Bike.

Thanks Guys:cool:

I thought the very same thing so I took my bike in to dealer to have them adjust it because my clutch felt like it was not engaging until almost all the way out. The dealer told me that's normal and it feels fine. Also that hydraulic clutches have no adjustment, just may need fluid but in my case it was totally fine and normal. I was afraid I was going to burn up clutch but not the case.

I am seeing the same things as you. Feels like my clutch is almost 50% released before I feel them grab and pull the bike forward. This was said to be normal? I honestly never noticed it this far out but I only have 1000 miles on this bike and it's my first with a non cable clutch. My Ninja has a cable and it engages much sooner. Hydros don't do that?

I've noticed that mine engages with very little lever release when the bike is still "cold", but after I've ridden for a while, particularly after a couple hundred miles for example, the clutch engages much later.

How much of a reduced reach does the Oberon clutch lever provide OldMike? Does if give the feel that the engagement point is a lot closer tot he bar?

It's closer, never measured it.
There are other adjustable levers too, Oberon is not cheap but well built.

How is the fitment compared to the stock HD lever? I know sometimes there may be slight differences in tolerances. If it's not too much trouble, will you please post a pic of the stock lever sitting on top of the Oberon clutch lever and take a rough measurement of how much the reach is reduced? Thanks

Here's an old pic is all I have right now. Try a Google search using Harley Oberon levers.PHaidb.jpg

Thanks OldMike. I can tell from that pic that the lever is in fact, closer to the bar.

I had em on my Vrod too, I didn't like how far out the hydraulic clutch lever worked and could not be adjusted.

OK- Here's my story with the Oberon levers. I like them a lot, but...

I have found out that as I adjust them in, I lose the ability for clutched starting while in gear. I can either start in Neutral, or have to dial out to a wide hand grip to get the starter to engage. Once I am in motion, I can dial it back in to my comfort grip. A second issue of less importance is that the lever catches almost immediately. Way too close to the handle bars.

So any thoughts on how to get the starter to engage at all dial positions, or do I essentially have a non-intentional, anti start, anti theft feature on my bike now, lol?

thanks!
