My bike makes an inordinate amount of noise at idle when it's at operating temp. The mechanic at my local dealership maintains that it's "normal" with the new idle compensator that they've installed in later model 103's.Has anyone else heard of this?He reckons that as the idle rises and falls it causes the compensator to chatter

Twin Cam engines are notoriously noisy on top in the valve train. Its accentuated even more with fairings and lowers and half helmets.

WELCOME to SGF! Wear earplugs and hide your wallet!

Try changing your oil to Mobil 1 V Twin full synthetic. Should help a little, and I've definitely noticed my Harleys run cooler with it.

Other than that, just embrace it. If you want quiet, get one of those beamer bikes with the metal box carriers all over the damn place lol

I use Harley Formula+ oil in the primary (only) if that's where your noises are. Your dealer can change this. I think Harley recommends this oil in the newer bikes.

If it is coming from the compensator, it could be a bad compensator, as the dealer just replaced mine, known problem in newer Harleys. If the noise is from the Valves/Rocker Arms, look into some Rocker Lockers, fixes the noise problem.
