49 state vs California

I have a 14 SGS that is all stock and not California. My friend 14 SG is California. He thinks my bike runs better than his stock. I was wondering if anyone knows what the difference is between 49 state and California. Tuning, exhaust, intake?

All Harleys sold in the US have been 50 state compliant since at least 2010 so unless he brought it in from another country they came from the factory the same.

If that is true, why did a dealer in Colorado tell me he could not sale a bike to me because I lived in California?

Because he doesn't know what he's talking about maybe, or perhaps it had been modified.

California has such weird laws:

Anyone who brings a vehicle into California, or purchases a nonresident vehicle while in California, should be aware that some nonresident vehicles cannot be registered in California or the United States (U.S.).
