ok less than a year to go before the trip is to begin
back ground have the main route planned
start point south ms to Sturgis to glacier to reno to kingman az to the caynon lands to south west texas
milage for main route is 7,918 miles not including any side roads or detours
very little interstate riding
no time limit

need some help on what or how would be the best way to find a roadside camp spot or would it be better to use a camp ground

will be some hotel nights but I prefer camping

any ideas or opinions will be welcome

Looks like you've done your planning well so far. Your just going to have to search for each stop for a local campground. Or see if camping is allowed at City/town parks.

plan on going to a lot of historical sites that I have an interest in
and just riding some good roads and seeing the sites

I downloaded an app on my phone called "ParkAdvisor" (android). Love that app, shows all the camping sites around you, with reviews. I used that when I took a little tour on my bike a few months ago.
