Cedar 😡😊😊beer cooler

I am making a cedar beer cooler for our deck. I am wondering if I need to oil the cedar for extra protection or will it be fine? It will be on the south side of the house in direct sun.
 
I had cedar on a house. It looked better with a sealer, and I imagine it would hold up better with a sealer. I can't remember what I had put on the house. A decent hardware store could give some good advice. How big a cooler are you building?
 
Inside of the cooler is 34"x16"x16". Double wall stainless tub with 1.5" of polystyrene and a ball valve drain. Will post pics when I'm done. Also have a stainless HD bar & shield logo going on the front. I guess I may need to oil the cedar next spring after it dries out some. It will be out of the elements come winter.
 
I have used Thompson's water seal on western cedar with good results, and spar varnish on eastern red cedar.
