Checking Oil

OK, here is my dumb question/scenario of the day. I usually check my oil after a long ride when I get home. And I mean right when I get home. I get off the bike, grab a rag, and check. I think it is because I am a bit paranoid since replacing the main seal. Everything has been fine until yesterday. Yesterday I got home but had a phone call and did not check the oil until half an hour later. This time the oil level was at the half way point.

The dip stick says to check hot on the jiffy stand. Is half an hour after a ride still considered hot?

Any and all input is appreciated.

Ride safe.

I guess I’m screwed again. I wonder what would make the new main seal stop working at 2000 miles. Any thoughts? It was perfect up until yesterday when I did 57 miles on my commute to work in the morning and took the long way home (150 miles).

I would continue to keep an eye on it before I changed the seal again. How much oil is in your intake? On my 18sgs I will lose 1/2 a quart (middle of the hash mark) before it stops dumping oil into the air cleaner. Which I was told was pretty normal by fuel moto when they did my cam. So now I leave it a half quart low when I do a oil change. And I have no more oil problems.

I’ve got the Roland Sands Clarity cleaner and it has been pretty clean since I replaced my main seal and my breather assemblies but I’ll take a look tonight when I get home.

Do you mean you only pour in 3.5 quarts I to your crank case every 5k?

Nope, not still hot. All the entrained air and most of the heat has left the oil and the level goes down.

Have only been running 3.5 quarts since the second oil change on my bike. It used to coat that air filter really bad. Have switched air cleaners and most of that problem went away.
