Does dealer really do what they say on first service ?
Can i do it myself, its a lot cheaper for sure.i have always
serviced my on bikes.

They are supposed to do a lot of checking and make sure everything is tight. Also gets you into the Harley system for warranty issues. It's not cheap for sure but going forward nothing for a motorcycle is lol.

If you do it and there is a problem later on... you may have a hard time getting them to cover it. Get the 1K service to get you in the system and go from there..... worth it if you have a problem later on.

What do you mean "in the system"? In that dealers system or registered with harley? I ask because I bought my bike from a distant dealer and will not be taking it there for service. But could to the local dealer if need be.
On my last bike I did all my own service and used Amsoil from day one. What is the favorite oil for the touring bikes?

Question A; Some do, some don't
Question B; Yes you can, it's fun and saves a boatload of $$$!
(You'll also know it was done right!)

'In the system' for HD... not the dealer.....

I'm not sure about this "in their system" argument. but I do understand the concern of getting jerked around. I decided to use an indy for my 1k. I dont know why but I don't trust the dealership. I prefer to have a relationship with the mechanic working on my bike. I dont want bob, then joe then hank then sal to work on my bike. Turnover is too high at some of these places. I guess I'm hoping for the company to stand by their product if something goes wrong.

I did mime myself. Something goes wrong warranty has to cover it anyway as long as it's not neglect. Didn't wanna pay 400 for some grease boy to change my oil.

My dealer gives Priority service if you bought your new bike there. Its called the MVP program with guaranteed 1 day service and 15% discount on parts/clothes. Still, I do my own fluid changes and all other items listed in the 1k, 5k, service bulletins.

My dealer has them same program. But still do my own as I like to know stuff was put on correctly and with thread locker as almost every screw & bolt so far hasn't had any.
Just keep a log and receipts for warranty.

Yah I could have done it myself but considering I'm still green horn I figured its a good idea to pay them.
