Flo Billet Oil Filter

No way on my engine, that metal screen element only filters to 35 microns. Particles that size can cause major engine wear. H-D filters use synthetic media and filter to 5 microns.

cut it apart and see. Do you think big race motor company's that use the FLO filters don't know anything? I have run Flo filters on every Motor I own, some cost twice what a Harley cost, have never had a problem or has any of my race buddy's.

Besides who runs Harley filters? Seems everyone is looking for the cheapest thing to use.

Race vehicles get new oil and a filter every few minutes (drag racing) or every few hours (road racing).

Here's an abstract from an SAE paper on the subject:

Correlating Lube Oil Filtration Efficiencies with Engine Wear paper #881825

The level of filtration in an engine can have a significant impact on wear rates due to abrasive particles. Tests were conducted to establish a relationship between the level of filtration and abrasive engine wear. Although the tests were run in a laboratory environment, wear was reduced by as much as 70% by going from a 40 micron filter to a 15 micron filter. Controlling the abrasive contaminants in the range of 2 to 22 Microns in the lube oil is necessary for controlling Engine wear.

Your filter is rated 35 micron, H-D SuperPremium is rated 5.

AGAIN who runs Harley Super Premium filters? Seems everyone is looking for the cheapest thing to use.

I'm with Hulk on this one. I had a similar spat with someone on FB recently selling this kind of stuff here in the UK. The demands of road and race use are completely different and, consequently, are the fluid change frequencies. Why anyone would knowingly install a less efficient filter on the basis of its appearance is beyond me. The old maxim: 'oil and filters are cheaper than parts' applies.

I have been using HD filter since day one too on my SG......though I have used Scotts reusable filter on my ZX12R and no issues with my bike which I use a lot less, I rather have better protection for my SG.

5 microns to 35 microns is quite a bit so better to be safe than sorry for me.
