I thought I'd share my personal experience with installing a set of Heat Demon grip heaters. Yesterday my brother and I installed a set of these along with HD black Airflow grips on his 2017 CVO SG. Let me say that the install itself was a PITA to do.
Cons: We had to remove the front fairing, amp, amp rack and radio in order to access the cutout in the handlebars, so that we could fish the Heat Demon wiring from the throttle side to the clutch side. This was necessary because unlike a SGS, the CVO has the wiring hidden inside of the bars for a clean look and attempting to run the supplied fish tape from the throttle side to the clutch side resulted in the fish tape getting hung up on the factory wiring inside of the bars. Overall, the install itself was easy, but removing all the components to access the hole in the center of the handlebars was not fun at all. I can see why dealers charge $200-$300 for this install because it's very time consuming. I don't think I will do this mod on my SGS, as it is more involved than the amp install and speaker pod removal, wich was also a PITA. I think a set of heated gloves may be the route I take.
Pros: You can use the heaters with any grips. The high quality controller replaces the clutch side clamp and has four LED lights to show which temperature setting has been selected. There was no need to drill a hole in the handlebars, as they came with holes in them from the factory. They get nice and toasty. My Bro is very pleased with them.
