So today was my first 80 F day on my '16 SGS
and I must say I roasted. Found it quite uncomfortable. My stealer suggested a decat head pipe. That's fine but does that mean I am going to need a tuner? Or is there anything else I can do? I will probably add slip ons eventually also. Thanks in advance.

Yes you willl. I have a decattted OEM pipe, and I did not get much improvement in heat reduction in the driver seat during hot days at stops on the asphalt. Much improved performance though.

An even BETTER heat improvement are Ceramic coated decatted head pipes.

I installed a FM 2-1-2 stainless ceramic on my 2016 SGS. The heat reduction very noticeable.

No, you won't need it tuned or remapped. I've been over this with 3 dealers now and my performance mech and they all tell me the same thing....No tune or remap needed. I decatted mine, installed new slip-on's, installed a Screamin' Eagle AC and it runs fine. Very little decel popping and my gas mileage is fine. Recently I had the dealer hook it up to their digital technician and was told everything is within acceptable parameters. Good luck....

Your gas mileage might be good but your bike is running hotter. Hd run lean out the box once you open the air and gas mixture up you should get it tuned or get some kind of tuner with a good canned map. Your bike will run cooler and better.

The stock ECM will self adjust to accommodate the proper air.fuel ratios. It will run lean and pop. You don't "need" it, but it would definitely improve performance overall.

The stock ecm will adjust it some but the stock ecm is setup to run lean to meet EPA regulation . you will get some heat reduction with a decatt pipe and your bike will run better and a little more fuel will help cool it too. pipes and a tuner are always my first mods on any bike.

That's not true I rode my bike for over a month popping like crazy and getting hot it didnt stop until I took it to a Dyno and got it tuned.. but its your bike you do what you like bro. From my own experience getting it tuned was the best option,it felt like a different bike. Good luck.
