Sounds ignorant I know, that's why I'm asking. The only reference to it in the owners manual states it's inside the fairing. I don't know about that. They may be referring to another model with a different fairing. Anyone?

Actually You need to drive to the nearest biker bar....you know the one with all the hard core bikers.....find the guy with the most scars and tattoos and ask him....that's usually the most knowledgeable mechanic in the bar....these guys are always ready to help
