It's super loud. I've tried the volume switch on the left grip, but it just controls the music.

I have the exact opposite issue. I can't hear it over my music at all. I just turned off the navigation and forgot to check after I got home.

You have to wait until the Nav Voice is Active, Then turn it up or down. The volume control will only adjust the Nav voice when it is saying something.

Used the nav for the first time this weekend getting back from an unfamiliar destination. Man, you either get "I can't hear you" at speed or "QUIT YELLING AT ME" when you're stopped - no in between.

Press the HOME button, then select "Setup"....scroll down until you see "Feedback...", select it and you will find "Enable Nav Prompts". You can set that on or off, it has a check box next to it. You'll find every time you update the software, among other things to reset will be that. You can also set the volume on that page...

You can change the nav prompt vol while it is talking or you can do it in the settings. I can't remember right off hand the exact directions to it but there is a place in the settings to change it

You can set the volume to change with speed in the settings also just like a car.
