Just brought home new SGS yesterday. What's this I hear about flipping a shock to install the docking station?

It only applies to bikes that have the coil shocks, and Harley distributed bikes with the right shock installed upside down. With bikes with the shock installed upside down, you can't get the sissy bars, Tour-paks, etc. to fit on the bike.

Dealer said you can uninstall the shock, rotate it 180 and reinstall. Doing so gives the necessary clearance for hardware to fit. Seemed awfully screwy to me. Ever heard of this option?

Sure have, I do it all the time ( I work for a Harley Dealer). I usually do it when it first comes off the truck, but its not hard to do. Having the suspension on the lowest setting, when you take it off will save you a lot of time and grief. After seeing all the '15s have this issue, I would've thought that Harley would have wised up, but the first '16 SGS off the truck that I inspected had this same issue.

I might be wrong and Tictoc can correct, but I heard it doesn't matter which way the shock goes unless you put a docking station on. I replaced mine with progressive shocks and it states to install reversed for a docking station.

Thanks for the info, Tictoc. Good to know it wasn’t all smoke up my @$$. Lowest setting…got it. Can this be done on it’s stand? Or should it be on a MC jack stand? Anything else I should know before I tackle this? Tricks of the trade? Thanks.

Center stand of some sort to take the weight of the bike off the shocks. You don't need to jack the bike sky high; lift the bike just enough to decompress the suspension. Wheel is off, or just lightly touching the ground.
You need loctite for the reinstall.
If you need to flip both shocks for some reason, then do one side at a time (you only need to flip on side, right?)
Remove the bottom bolt before you remove the top bolt- it's easier to hang on to pieces that way. Top bolt back on first- use the stand to adjust for alignment with the bottom bolt.
