hey everyone, i have a quick question. I have a 2014 sgs that has about 13k on it. I have done all the fluid changes my self since owning the bike, but i have not taken it in for its 5k or 10k service. I have a full service manual and i was looking it over and there isnt any thing on those service checks that i can deem worth paying the money for. What do you guys think? I have checked the brakes, brake bolts, belt tension, tire depth, tire pressure and just a good look over everything, (bolts being tight, lines not chaffed or pinched/woren out. I look the bike over weekly.) So my question is how mandatory are these service checks with Harley? Or can i continue doing what im doing? all input is welcome. I just find it hard to swallow the service price. thanks.

noob question about 5k 10k service

I'm a mechanic, and do most all of my work myself, but with my scooter, a second pair of eyes and a different skill set gives me better peace of mind. I take mine to a private shop, and it costs less than half what the dealer charges. Look around, I'm sure you can find a reputable shop that will meet all of your needs.

norcalsvt- I did exactly what you are doing but I did take it in at 12k and had them do the 10k minus fluid changes. The price was attractive and they did everything else: belt tension, fork bearings, etc.

mojo, is the fork bearings the same as the steering head bearing? I ask this bc in my manual there is no mention of fork bearings. if they are the same thing then my manual doesnt show needing to "inspect, lubricate and adjust" till 25k
