Oil from Air Cleaner

I have an HD Air Cleaner with the K&N Filter. Oil has always found its way in the cleaner, but recently I’ve noticed that it’s becoming excessive, to the point where I wiped a small drip from the bottom, and I’m wiping oil off right saddlebag. Is this normal? IMG_0294.jpg

I think they all do it. There is a couple threads on here about rerouting the blow by tube to a catch pan and some route it to the ground behind the rear tire. When doing a oil change I only add 3.5 quarts and this seems to help adding the full 4 it only gets worse.

Ok. My next oil change, I’ll only add 3.5....I thought I had a leak or something. Thanks

Yes it is normal. I experienced this on my stock 103 motor. It also happened on my 107 built motor too. Now I clean my filter every 2K miles or so before the filter gets saturated with oil.

Thanks for the advice. I’m just over 2k since last oil change. I’ll clean filter on my next days off.

Give that a try and you should see better results. I haven't tried running 1/2 quart less oil, but many have said that it works. I personally would rather err on the side of caution and run the recommended amount. If you're using a K&N replacement filter, follow the instructions carefully for cleaning and oiling, especially oiling, so that you don't over oil the filter and exacerbate the problem.

I rerouted my vent lines into a filter that sits in the bottom of the air box to catch the excess oil. I just clean it every couple thousand miles. The oil is blow by that I rather not have going back into motor. Check out DK Customs website as they have some good articles about it and sell some kits to route it to the bottom of the bike. I personally just went to Autozone and bought a T fitting that fits into the existing black tubing and then bought another foot of tubing and ran it down around both sides of the air filter into a small filter like shown in this picture that sits in the bottom of the airbox. Cost was less than $8 for everything. This picture is not my bike but I basically did the exact same thing.
