Oil in the Air Filter

Hello,
I have a 2013 FLHX, I recently installed a HD Extreme Billiet filter on it and I noticed a little bit of oil on the bottom of the filter when I was inspecting it. My bike only has 6K miles on it and the oil level is at the full mark. Has anyone else experienced this? If so what was the fix? Thanks...

Yes, I have on my '15 SGS and my brother has on his '17 CVO too. I'm sure there are many others dealing with this problem. I attribute it to the breather bolts venting oil blowby into the throttle body for cleaner emissions. It mixes with the air and fuel in the TB and is burned. The residual oil eventually saturates the bottom of the air filter and leaks. The best fix IMO, is to install a catch can to vent the oil into. Several people also suggest running 1/2 quart less oil to prevent blowby, but I personally feel
more comfortable running 4 quarts of oil in mine.

The fix would be to crack the throttle open a little more/more often to pull that stuff back into the engine..

I had the same issues on my 2016 SGS. I got a small breather filter from Autozone and ran two hoses to a brass “T” connection and installed the filter under my air cleaner; no more oil ever in my air filter.

Try filling to below the full mark by a couple (3 or 4) ounces. I don't tip top off and don't have the oiling issue.

Mine is always oily and messy. I should do the right thing and get the breathers in the heads replaced.

I just ordered a dk custom intake system with a catch can kit. I hope to get it this week then I can at least redirect this mess to being away from my intake. Still a patch rather than fixing the reason so much oil escapes.
