I have recently gone from an 08 Fatboy to a 16 sgs. Wife says she feels cramped between the detachable backrest and myself and says she had alot more room on the fatboy. would getting a better seat to change out when riding 2 up make the difference/ any ideas?

Probably not. It has to do with the passenger backrest position. My wife says she had a lot more room on our Road King. I'm thinking about modding a backrest to move it back a few inches.

A more plush rear seating area might help, but it won't change the position of the backrests. On the SG, I can't use the driver backrest when 2 up. On the Road King it was no problem...and we're both about the same size as we were then.

1biker- for me the answer is yes. I picked up a new Ultra seat cheap and my wife loves it. Its a quick 5 minute swap when needed.

I have a sundowner, and the wife loves it. I have the tall large backrest and there is plenty of room. We are not tiny people. 6/200 and 510/180. My sense is that if you need a backrest that is further back, you may have to go tour pak when she is on.

Thanks, i will try out a new seat when the weather gets a little better. they have loaners at the H.D. shop

Just like Mojo, I got a stock seat from the dealer for an Ultra Glide. While it doesn't move the Chopped Tourpack I have, what it did was push me ever so slightly forward, maybe an inch or two, giving the wife a little bit more room and a way cozier seat. The new seat position did feel a bit strange as I had already put a couple thousand miles on the stock seat, but I quickly got used to it as it was more cozy for me as well. I think the best thing about the new seat was the price. If I recall correctly, it was about $260 give or take.

One thing though, I'm not a fan of how it looks on the bike. So, I usually keep the stock seat on the bike unless I'm taking the wife out for 25 miles or so.

I am picking up a seat like the one in the picture for Utra Glide today.....I don't know if it's the same...by looking at the picture attached can someone tell me if it'll work on my 2015 SG?

I will also use it when I am with my wife on long trips but will go back to OEM seat other times....

when i got my standard height sissy bar and backrest i regret not getting the upgraded adjustable sissy bar that has three position settings. I have the same issue as the OP and would do it different as i negotiated the sissy bar at purchase:(

I just got back from 550 miles trip with my new seat and boy both wife & I have no issues with our backs or rears......very comfortable seat and highly recommend it.

IF my wife ever rode with me AND complained about the seat, I'd just get her on her own ride...problem solved...as it is, she takes her cage whenever we go someplace, she's comfortable and I'm happy.

If that's how easy it's then I would not have no problem doing so.....my wife can't even ride a bicycle so getting her own ride would not be an option.....plus, following with a cage is not really the way to enjoy riding.....so get a seat and have her come along is the easiest plus having a masseur in the back is always a must on long rides....LOL!

I am looking for a better seat for the wife, is everyone using the stock HD ultra seat #52000033 from the dealer. Will it fit a 16'sgs.
