Pbr300x2 and speaker install

Does anyone know a good write up maybe with pics of installing that amp and speakers? I'm looking at getting the pbr300x2 amp and either a set of kickers or infinity kappas in the near future and I want to see what all is involved in adding it to a 2014 stereo. Thanks in advance.

I'm going to follow this just cause if I keep pestering the wife I know she will eventually give in for some good audio!

It's actually not that hard, if I can do it anyone else can too. I used the PBR300x2 and the Biketronics 7.1's for the '14-up which gets rid of the plastic pods. Bought an install kit (heavy gauge wire with inline fuse) and amp mount off ebay/amazon. Wire the power to the battery, both +/- was recommended. There are now wiring kits from V-Twin Audio so you won't have to cut any speaker wires. Amp power on was wired into the accessory plug. All wiring was run in the plastic wiring channel under the gas tank to keep things clean. For this amp you need to connect the REM wire to a power source such as the accessory plug, I didn't at first and it wouldn't work right, called RF and the tech said connect it, all good after that. The other thing you'll need to do is have the radio flashed at the dealer, RF recommends AMP 1-2 OFF, 8 speakers

Great reply Scott14SG! That's what makes this the best forum on the web!

Good explanation Scott!

I do know as of 3 weeks ago, RF was talking to MOCO about the udpates for audio.... seems like I read/heard that if you had 1.17* or older... the 1/2 amp OFF w/ 8 speaker ON works.... with 1.18* it sounds like crap. I have a Brother with 13RG that had been having issues with the PBR300 and not sure if he got it resolved yet.

Thanks guys, and you're right this is a great forum, I've been able to get plenty of info here myself so when I can I help out as well.

Spazz- When I had my radio flashed they could not set the AMP 1-2 OFF, they defaulted to ON, but I do have the 8 speakers. The tech told me that those settings are for the Boom amps (AMP 1-2 OFF). Truthfully I don't know anything about the flash and I assume most dealerships don't know much either. I have 1.18.3 and my radio sounds fine, actually it's damn loud and at 80mph I can turn it up to 3/4 volume and drown out the exhaust noise. I did read somewhere that for now if you have had the radio flashed you should not apply any software updates as that might actually change the settings, but can't confirm that.

Scott... you are VERY CORRECT in that once a flash is done on your system, you should NOT update the HU since you 'can' lose your flash.... seen it happen...and then I haven't.

The ultimate goal with a flash is to get the flattest EQ curve possible from the HU to ensure optimum performance gains from the aftermarket amps with no amplified signal across the volume scale of the HU

I thought I read somewhere that you didn't have to install the rem wire because something else powered the amp up. I'm planning on using a magic box until the flash things get resolved. Also what speaker grills are you using?

Magic box is a good alternative to a flash... lots of folks run them. I run stock fairing grilles and HD lids are fitted with HD grilles.

I am not up to speed on the PBR's except for them clipping when not tuned right and wrong speakers ( ohms rating ) being used and/or incorrect wiring of speakers ( referring to parallel/series wiring ) They are a 4ohm rated amp and do not like 2 ohms at all.... Look into a different amp....Arc Audio and Diamond Micro are two that I recommend.

The signal from the radio speaker wires will turn the amp on without using the remote wire .

I've looked at those amps but they are out of my price range that'd I'd like to spend. Trying to get the best sound I can for a limited budget. I've heard good things on that amp and speaker set up. Also using kicker speakers instead of the kappas, but heard the kappas were better. I really only need a 2 channel amp because I'm never going to add more than the fairing speakers.

Sorry I'm far from being any type of audio guru, I originally installed the amp without the REM wire, couldn't get it to work even though I could see the amp light turn on. Ended up calling RF and talking to a tech, he explained it but might as well have been speaking Chinese to me, basically told me to hook up the REM and it now works great. I was able to keep my stock speaker grills. If your stock grills won't work, do a Google search for Legacy Baggers, he makes some nice custom ones.

Just to piggy-back what Scott said... if the amp doesn't turn on, run the REM wire with a positap to the 12v outlet hot wire... that's where mine is at.

Also... Benji ( Legacy Baggers) will inform you that his grillz require internally mounting the speakers in the pods for clearance with some models.... he uses my HOW TO video to explain the process of the POD MOD.

What speakers are you running? I'd love to be able to keep the stock grills or splurge a bit for the boom grills. I'm not liking all the after market grills I'm seeing.

The outlet you reference is the "cigarette lighter" outlet in the fairing correct?

I left the stock speaker grills in, there was no issue. Might be different for speakers other than the BT 7.1's but I'm not sure.

As for the REM wire, correct, I tapped into the back of the cigarette lighter/accessory plug inside the fairing but I'd guess that any power wire that turns on with the ignition would probably work, hopefully someone who actually knows for sure will chime in.

Sorry for being late on this post but i was out for awhile. 2014streetglide you asked for some pics of a pbr300x2 installed. Here is mine on my 12 SG with kickers in the front and Hertz 130.3' in the pods...... now I am having some clipping issues that I am currently working on. I believe that it may be caused by not having enough speakers! Dang the luck!uploadfromtaptalk1437166796577.jpg
