So, I have had enough of changing the volume on almost every song I play from my USB flash drive. I vaguely remember reading somewhere in the past that mp3 files can have their volume adjusted. So I went looking on the net and found the program called mp3gain. No relation or anything.
http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/
So, I ran it on all 5913 of my songs last night which took several hours. I used the updated files today on the boom box and got a good steady volume on almost everything. Much less wear and tear on the little stick controller. Made me happy.
Here is where the upgrade alternative comes into play for this. The program defaults to 89dB volume level on everything but it allows you to put in a custom volume level. I noticed that my boom box volume setting was actually lower than normal and that gave me more output from the boom box to play with. At full volume the songs I tried out were not clipped and did not sound bad. But they were louder. So, this is an alternative to get some more volume out of the radio without spending tons of money. It may not be enough for some folks but might be for others.
Does not hurt to try it out. I do suggest making a backup of your original files so that you can restore them if you do not like the results. I believe the program modifies the files and does not overwrite them. It also normalized volume increases and decreases within the songs.
