I'm going in the direction of blacking out some of the parts on my ride (engine guard, rear fender support, headlamp ring, highway peg bracket). Would it be cheaper to have them powder coated?

Thanks Mandrew and Designflaw. I shot an email to one of the local powder coaters for an estimate. One concern I have is the highway peg brackets fitting on the engine guard after it's done. Any thoughts?

Aren't your pegs held on with a pinch bracket? Should be no problem what so ever. I powered a lot of things on my 14 SGS including floor boards, center console, rear strut assemblies crash bar, front and rear turn signals forks etc. Ask around, prices vary but a lot of times the more you take them the better the deal is

I had my highway pegs powered coated. worked fine attaching to the engine guard after.

I had everything that was chrome, powder coated on my bike. Besides the highway bar because I forgot it at home, and my front end. But it's about to get changed out as soon as my parts arrive.

I did get one hell of a deal on my powder coating. I think I only paid $150=-200 for everything.

I went this same direction on my bike and when I priced everything out it was definitely more cost-effective to have my existing parts powder coated instead of buying new black parts. I used Calico Coatings and they are located in Denver, NC.

Hope this helps!

Yep- do it all at once and you'll save money because you'll avoid multiple "set up" fees. Once they have the color and powder prepped, its easy work to get multiple parts done.
Consider getting the hardware (bolts and acorn nuts) done too. They powder coated should be able to judge whether he can give a good finish without affecting fit.

N2DEEP, that is an awesome deal. If I can find something close to that price range, I'll definitely black out a lot more parts. It makes sense that shops will give you a better deal with the more parts you bring in like Mandrew was saying. Thanks all for the help.

How did you get the chrome off? My local powder coater told my that you can't shoot it over the chrome it won't bake on right.
