Hi guys just some info on an issue that I came across. I recently did the 1000 mile service on my 2014 SGS and was unsure of which oil to use. After talking to the parts guy at my local dealer I decided to go with Harley Syn3 in the engine and primary and Redline with shockproof in the trans. After less than 100 miles I started to notice that once my bike warmed up it would make a loud clunking noise at idle. The noise was definitely coming from the primary so I did some research and talked to a factory certified Harley mechanic thinking that I was going to have to take my brand new bike in for warranty work. He told me that while Harley says it is OK to run Syn3 in all three cases he did not recommend it. He advised me to drain the oil out of the primary and use either Harley Formula+ or Redline primary and gear oil and see if that made a difference before I took it in to the dealer.
I changed the oil yesterday (went with the Harley Formula+) and immediately noticed the primary was quieter and the clunking noise was gone. Just wanted to get the info out there for anybody else who put Syn3 in the primary may be experiencing the same problem.
