I'm finally within a few weeks of purchasing my SGS. This will be my first Harley and I am moving up from a 650 V-Star. I know this question has the potential of a million answers, but would like some opinions on any upgrades that you more experienced SG owners think to be "required" upgrades. My list so far:

1. Daymaker with matching Passing Lamps. 100% sure as I ride early mornings in deer country.
2. Seat, thinking a Corbin that I like. I'm 6-1 about 240LBS so 80% sure...
3. Stage I kit. 80% sure, this is more of a wish than a requirement.

Thanks for any help to a newbie.

You asked for opinions and as a longtime rider my advice would be to ride the bike for a bit and work on issues that will make you more comfortable and also visability issues. When you are satisfied with those upgrades then think performance.
I also live in deer country and find the stock headlight to be adequate. Of course I spent many many years riding with the old style high/low sealed beam so the dual filament halogen delivers well for me. Trick is not to over drive your head light. Take each modification and think it through and sit on it for a bit and you will find your answers. There is no right or wrong or set formula. That's one of the reasons we ride HDs.
Have fun with your new bike and the mods you choose to make.

Your going to love it. As far as the daymaker goes check out JW Speaker evolution 2 lights on Amazon. They are the same ones as HD but a lot cheaper. I think I got mine for a bit over $300, you will also need a wiring harness from HD which is about $25. As far as seats go it's really up to you. What works for one guy may or may not work for you. I highly recommend doing a stage one, it really wakes the bike up. Post pics when you get her.

When I bought my sgs, I just bought a lot of fuel the first year and then started doing the rest. But that was just me lol

I've been reading on the JW evo 2s. I'll probably go that route. 2014SG I plan on spending lots on fuel too. Can't wait!

If the bike fits you well, then I agree with starting with increasing your visibility. If you like Corbin, get it on the bike- a comfy saddle makes a big difference when you start to rack up longer rides.
Benefit of doing mods like a stage 1 right away is that it will be part of the original warranty if the dealer does it at delivery.... If that matters...

This was pretty much me as well....and I upgraded from a 1100 V-star (still have it in the garage though)

My bike already had slip-ons from the dealer and I immediately ordered a better seat and passenger backrest (more for my lady than myself)...I have since added the JW Evo2 LED headlight and Custom Dynamics Bullet Ringz LED turns and Avon grips....but that's all
