Hello all,

I am currently shopping for a Street Glide Special and wanted opinions on what year to actually buy?
I know I would like the Special but does anyone recommend any year in particular or are they all the same.
2014 was the first year of the Rushmore but I am always hesitant on buying the first year something changed.
Maybe 2015 and 2016 they worked out the bugs, maybe it doesn't matter between any of the years?
Looking to get a good deal but wondering if the 2016 might be the way to go or even wait for the 2017?

Thanks for your opinions in advance.

Welcome to the Forum!

Personally... I would stick with a 14 or newer.... I had ZERO issues with my 14SGS... just moved on to a 15RGS with the wife's blessing ( no... she's mine! and you can't have her)

The 14-16's are basically the SAME with the exception of colors changing ( adding or deleting options ) Stick with your decision on a SPECIAL... more bang for the buck and you can't tell yourself that you should have gotten more... you got the works from MOCO... then add your personal touches to make it your own.

2017's will have a bit of a twist in motor options ( some say rumors... I have some good sources that tell me otherwise ) CVO's 'should be' equipped with 120 motors and 110's ' should ' be the standard for most of the touring models, but time will tell when the official word is released.

You can probably get a good/great deal on a used model.. 14 or 15 or even a 16.... but... if you have the coin and patience... wait for the release of the 2017 models and make your decision then.

I am usually impulsive and get what I want right then and there.... hard habit to break... so be it.

Good luck on your quest.... you won't be disappointed in any way you go... other than motor/ color options... not much will change between 14-17...

Thanks Spazz great points I agree, you can tell Harley is starting to get afggressive on moving the 2016 with a 2.99 APR now. Great advice

I had a 2013 SG and got a great interest rate late in 2015 on a 2015 SGS. No regrets. Holding until the 2017's come out would be a good idea. If nothing else you might get a good deal on a 2016.

Making it your own is the fun part. Fun to do but very hard on the wallet.

Another thing to think about is what changes do you want to make to the bike. I bought a special and now there's nothing left to tell it was a special. I could of save a couple grand by just doing the regular SG in the first place, but if your not thinking about doing any major changes then definitely do the special.

Other than the primary cover being thinner on the 16 the 14-16 are the same except colors. I was looking for 2 colors, one wasn't available in the 2016 so I ended up with a 2015 SGS because I wanted Nav and ABS. If you're planning on keeping it stock looking like I am then get the color you want, would suck to hate the color after a month or two.

If you're planning on adding a tourpak keep in mind its about $1800 for everything unless you find a used one. Buying a Ultra Classic and adding fenders is a cheaper option depending on the price you pay for the bike. I am into mine for 24K with the tourpak, speakers/pods, pad, seat, etc. Good luck.

You shouldn't have to wait too long to find out what's in store for 2017 HD. Last year, Harley filed almost every model with the California Air Resource Board before the end of July.
Typically they will get certified with California in June/July and then announce to the public one-two months later.

Well thanks everyone, I pulled the trigger on a black 2016 Street Glide Special yesterday from Space Coast Harley. I will post pics as soon as I get some Thanks for all your recommendations. End of month with the new bikes coming out couldn't pass up an unbelievable deal from Space Coast.

Congrats! You couldn't go wrong with any of the years but it's always nice (to me, at least) to have a newer model and the factory warranty being in effect can possibly save you some money. Just make sure to ride it enough to break something before it expires

I asked them if I could omit the warranty for a discount (seriously). Reasoning was that when I got done with it HD would barely recognize it and I figured they would void the warranty anyway.

Congratulations on the new glide. Now stick around so we can help spend some more of your money ha ha ha ha
