I am in the market for a Harley streetglide in a bad way. My buddy is selling his 2006 streetglide for 13K. It has the 88 engine, it has 24K miles...has aftermarket exhaust (dual fish tail), power commander, upraded speakers, medium ape hangers. Its in excelent condition and shinny black. should i get it or shop on for something newer like a 2011 or 2012 with the 103 engine??? $13K is about the max (perhaps a tad more). Any advice is appreaciated (my first harley BTW).

Welcome: I would shy away from the 2006 -2008, they seem to have some issues, the big one that comes to mind was the bagger wobble.

If you can afford a 2009 and newer (major changes for the better) i would look into that.

Just did a quick look on Craigslist and here is a 2009 for under $14k, but it has 42k miles.

The 88 engine is under powered in a bagger, i would look for a 103 engine if you can swing it, nothing wrong with a 96 though.

good points! I know he placed a "wobble bracket" on the thing. Im 220 lbs so bigger than the 88 would be better. plus blue book on the 2006 is $12750. i will look further my friend :)

theartman,
14 FLHX make good points. I would also check the used inventory at a couple of HD Dealers. You can shop on line and get an idea of going prices. If interested I think Harley financing is at 2.9% about now!

Have fun shopping!

So hers the reason. I bought new. Used interest rate was 9% interest on a new bike was 1%. I prefer to spend my money on something I can keep not give it to a bank. Look around you can find 0% interest deals. As a matter a fact I just got a card in the mail from 2 local dealers for 0% offers.

I wouldn't get the '06 unless that was my only option. Bluebowtie and 14 FLHX make good sense and offer good points on suggestions to you. If you look hard enough, you can find bikes in "distress sales" at a good discount. Many times when a bank does a repo they would much rather find someone willing to take it off their hands at a modest discount from "book" rather than run it thru the auctions.
