Tgs stiff after installing apes

This weekend I put on Yaffe 12 inch monkey bars. I had a few problems and it took a while to get everything (mostly) sorted out but my twist grip is really stiff and sticky now. I have quadruple checked that the problem isn't my switch housing or just a sticky grip on the bars (I lubed the inside of my grip just to be sure). In a final effort to make sure it wasn't the grip, I took the grip off and put channel locks on my twist grip sensor and it is definitely stiff and rough.

So with the history out of the way, next comes the questions. What did I do wrong? Did I push something too hard or is it possible the id of the bars is causing binding in the tgs? Have any of you experienced this with any bars and of so how did you correct it? The twist grip is fully functional, just stiff. Trying to make small speed adjustments is hard as it wants to 'jump' and pushing forward to cancel cruise is also hard.

This doesn't sound like your issue but When it happened to me it was the aftermarket grips I installed. I had to make sure I had the first lip of throttle grip lined up inside of the switch housing. Also sanded down the outer diameter of the lip part of the grip and moved everything out just a tad. Switch housing and grip both out about 1/16th of an inch. After that it started working great.

Thinking about your issue....I've read on another forum that some guys had to lube with white grease or found that wires got jammed in bars that was causing some binding inside TGS. Also had to clean out TGS from gunk getting inside after changing bars.

Did you had to push really hard to get TGS to seat inside bars? If so that might be the problem... call Yaffe for any recommendations.

Thanks jm. I had originally thought it was my grip binding, so I sprayed oil (Ptfe lube, stuff runs everywhere!) in the grip then carefully reassembled to make sure it wasn't binding on the housing or being pulled in too tight.

I definitely did push it in quite hard at the end to get the sensor in the bars. I'll have to see when I have time to dig into her and see if I can correct the damage I have done. Pulling that side through the bars was a pita so I hope to not do that again but we shall see. I left the green and black connectors in place near the twist grip sensor so those might come in handy as a service disconnect.

I may wait till mid next month when I can take a week off. I ride daily and being without my bike is like being without my coffee!
