I hadn't ridden a bike in 40 years in 2014 I bought a dyna switchback (2014). Time for a change. I know this forum is for street glides discussion but I'm having a hard time making a decision between the2016 street glide special and road glide special. I like them both. So I was hoping for some positive persuasion on which bike to choose. Believe me I know the final decision is mine but I do like in put from other people.
Thanks Dant52

Street Glide looks the best but the Road Glide handles the best. And since you are in a SG forum, get a SG, LOL!

Cant go wrong with either one , Street Glides are sexy looking bikes , RG not so much . . . .

That's what I have heard from different people. So my question is than why does it because to be honest I like the way the street glide looks also

In my opinion the Road Glide feels like driving a bus (caused by the fixed fairing).

my brother has a 15 road glide special, it feels like you drive not ride it. I'll take my SGS any day

road glide has a lot more storage on the fairing and comes with LED headlights already. RG also has much better ventilation through the fairing for the really hot days or when you feel like opening them up but also takes a much larger shielld to block wind from hitting your face than the SG because of the angle of the fairings. I've ridden them both quite a bit and prefer the fairing turning with my bars on the street glide cause I think it feels sportier.

I answered your question on RG Forum...lol!

I have owned both and love both... but choose the RGS for cutting thru the wind, and front feels much lighter without the weight of the batwing faring

Do what I did, I rented both the SG and RG for a day on each bike. They were both great bikes but it came down to the one I thought looked better.

I have a buddy that has a RG and he loves it...I have a SGS and I love mine. What I don't like about the RG is I like to see which direction I'm turning and I use my fairing as my guide...the RG's frame mounted fairing is deceiving to me....another bud has a Vision with the same problem....I'm sure I'd get use to it...but like Greetslide808 said....go rent both and decided from there.

I posted a thread on another forum(excuse me) regarding the way the RG vs SG fairings are mounted in respect to the handling of the bike and the fact that the RG weights 39 lbs more according to the HD website. The conclusion I gathered had nothing to do with the weight but how the fairings are mounted. Yes, when I rode my friends RG, it felt a little more nimble at low speed, but at high speed I like the nearness of the cockpit and didn't notice any difference in handling. Like a prior reply...I was driving the RG...not riding it. Same reason I bought my 05 softail over a road king...someone mentioned u ride in a softail...not on it. At the end of the day...it's really a personal preference. I'm very happy with my SG and have it hooked up to my comfort. Even though I'm only 5'-10", I have a seat that brings me lower and almost 2 inches back. If I did that on a RG....I think I would feel like I'm steering from the back of the bus...to quote another reply.

I know a few guys who went from a bat wing to a RG and swear by them , one even converted his SG to a RG fairing. The frame mounted fairing is claimed to handle better especially in the wind , I gotta believe it's no better in a cross wind though. They also seem to be in vogue ever since Harley didn't make a 14.

Street Glides are still Harleys biggest seller , there's a reason for that.

Spazz - Morrocogold, Now that you've ad time with both models, which one is better in handling buffeting?

Mojo.... hands down the RG handles much better in the wind.... headwind or crosswind, the RGS handles it MUCH better than my 14SGS ever did. I still love the SGS's... don't bet me wrong, its a great machine... I just prefer the handling and riding characteristics of the RGS a bit more.

There is much less buffeting for me as well....I still have the stock shield on my RGS.... and the addition of a 7" Windsplitter on my 14SGS ( Thanks Mojo ) was a major improvement along with the fork fangs... but it doesn't 'cut' the wind any better compared to the RGS

I didn't spend a lot of time on the RG and the day I rode it, there wasn't much head wind. I will say this, the RG needed a different windshield but so did my SG...it was the first thing I changed. And as far as handling the wind....I do know when there is a headwind gust hitting me. More so than when I had my softail...but then again my softail could never keep up with the glide. Like I said earlier, I like being part of the machine and I think the SG accomplishes that and no matter how many times I see a RG fairing ....it just doesn't do it for me.
One other thing...I was talking to a 15 RG owner yesterday and was surprised to hear that it rides hard....something that has taken some getting used to. I changed my rear shocks which has certainly helped, but now I'm curious about changing the fork springs.

My dealer will let you ride any bike you want, so try both.
