About to get my bike. I'm waiting on a PC, SE breather and a daymaker. What else are some of the first mods people do on these bikes?

I got the daymaker headlight (LED), highway pegs, hydraulic-adjustable back-rest for driver, and a 7" smoke windscreen.. (I'll probably go taller), the bracket/mount for the removable passenger backrest/tour-pack.. and I removed the heel shifter.

Exhaust and intake are some of the most common first mods done. Then it moves on into other things. Just know that by the time you are done changing or adding things to your bike you will probably have spent close to five grand or more. lol

1. Remove heel shifter
2. JW Speaker (Daymaker) - esp if you ride lots at night
3. LED rears or some other visibility/safety measure
4. Slip-ons or full exhaust
5. intake
6. Tuner - most here, myself included love the Vance & Hines FP3
7. Floorboard spacers and/or highway pegs depending your size/type of tiding

WELCOME Putty - See my mods in signature below . . . . . . . .

If I just got a new SG the 1st thing I would do is to re-route the breather so it isn't blowing hot dirty oily air back into the engine. Not going to gain much with a new AC and a stock engine except an empty wallet, but exhaust and tuner are always a great addition. And then the mods will never end...

I usually divide mods on a new bike into three categories and make them in this order. They are listed in my signature.
1) Comfort items such as remove heel shifter, extended brake pedal and extended shifter, hiway pegs, windshield height, seating and backrest, grips, adjustable fairing louvers and fork fangs, shocks, etc.
2) Saftey items such as lighting upgrades, saddle bag guards, etc.
3) Performance upgrades such as mufflers, tuners, intakes, engine upgrades etc.
Good luck and have fun.

If I had to do it all over again I would start with the Mustang seat. Best investment yet especially if you ride alot of two up. The rest go like this

21" Hog Pro Vivid black front wheel, matching rotors and smooth axle
Powder coated lowers
custom dynamic (dynamic ringz) to replace front turn signals
smoked signal covers
7 inch windscreen
10" monkey bars, new grips, levers, mirrors
HD shift linkage cover
HR horn cover
stretched bags
stretched side covers
highway pegs
razor tour pak
air suspension
curved license plate bracket
LED headlight
Reinhardt full duals
carb kit and custom air cleaner cover

No wonder I seem to be in trouble all the time with the wife :)

Driver backrest....every body keeps forgetting about driver fatigue...and driver comfort. That's one of the first things I got....

HM, doesn't that whip beat you up? I had one on mine about the same size as your and it kept whipping the crap out of me so I took it off. I'm thinking of getting a 48 inch to see if that helps.

Aviator, it used to with my stock bars but with my Monkey Bars it hangs much better and is out to side much more

Bars & Stereo speakers, Amp, wheels, stretched bags & fender, engine redone, seat, grips, floorboards, windshield, Daymaker LED head light is the BEST upgrade yet.

First thing I did was un-choke the poor thing!

-V&H Monster Ovals
-Fullsac DX Pipe
-SE HiFlo Aircleaner
-Powervision and full dyno tune

*I don't call this a modification or stage 1, I call it an "EPA Rebellion Kit". Why am I paying money just to make my "expensive motorcycle" work how it should in the first place??

other bits...

7" Freedom Screen
Hidden Antenna
Removed heel shifter
Carbon Fiber dash panel (like CVO)
Adjustable fairing wind deflectors
Engine deflectors near seat (like ultra)
Fork Fangs (not fitted yet)
Detachable sissy bar / passenger back rest
Philips 4000k Bluevision Globes (H9&H11). Easy cheap upgrade and works great!
Bagger Bolts ripoff (used parts sourced locally).

I may vent the crank case breather one day (tricky mod), but have a piece of foam in bottom of air cleaner to absorb oil. Can change that when it gets soggy. So far getting very little oil at all, if any!

And so I have two bikes in one - a seat from an Ultra I picked up for $50 (a guy on a forum) and a 9" Clear Freedom Screen, for the long trips.

That's it - I don't need to spend any more money on the bike!!! It's complete!! ;)
