Used Tuners..can you reuse?

I thought I had read here that some tuners (if not all) are bike specific. Is that true? I have seen tuners for sale in CL, FB, and a few other places..So, if a tuner is useless on a bike other than the one it was installed on originally, why would someone buy/sell a used one? Or, is the only problem you'd have trying to get support from the MFR.??
My understanding is that the tuner reprograms the Fuel Injection..is it/can it be removed after that without the bike reverting to its original tune? If that is the case then theoretically someone could use it to program multiple bikes without buying another..I am sure the MFR has to have a way to guard against that..
The ones I have seen most often at V&H Fuel Pak and PowerCommander..
Just curious.

Most tuners Marry (lock) to your bikes VIN numbers. Some tuners also let you by multiple license. So if you and your wife both have street glides, you can buy one tuner and one extra license without buying two tuners.

Fuel Pak is good if you dont plan on going past stage 1, if you want to do cams, BBK, or head work i would look at the Power Vision.

Used Tuners-----Some are ligament sales, some are they have problems and want to dump it.

So lets say you want a Power Vision, $499 at Fuelmoto with lifetime maps and tuning help.
Dude has one for sale for $150 used, you have to buy another license and or have the reset it. So that's $199, so you will have $350 into a used tuner without any warranty or support.

That is what I thought..none of these ads spell that out. THey just post them and say they are good..no indication that you have to do anything relicensing, etc. to get them to work. That is what has kept me from considering buying one used...

I'd definitely buy new from reputable source. Its too easy to get hosed.

I know this is a little bit older post but not all tuners are flash tuners like the Power Vision, SERT or TTS that marry to your bikes VIN. I prefer flash tuners and use the Power Vision but there are some good add-on tuners like the Power Commander, Fuel Pak etc that you can remove and the bike is back to original tune. You can sell the add on tuner and the buyer doesn't have to do anything but hook it up, find a map and use it. For those you may be lacking the seller support but you can use them without having to pay for another license.

I bought a FuelMoto Power Vision to use on my '08 Dyna. I am selling the Dyna and wonder if I should let the Power Vision go with the bike or see if I can use it on My '14 SG for a small upgrade charge. Or, would I be better to buy the V&H FP3?

I don't know for sure... but I think there is a certain PV that you have to use on our glides.... you may want to check into that before you decide anything.

Is the PV you have a PV-1 or PV-2?
PV-2 will work on your 14 SG.

So much for using my PowerVision on the SG. There is a big label on the side of the box PV-1. Thanks for the help Bluebowtie.

You might want to contact Jamie at Fuelmoto to confirm that. Hell it might just be a software update or a different cable is used.

I know the one I bought from FM Is a PV-2

JustDennis I am trying to sell the Power Commander from the 2015 883 Iron I had and was asked if it "married" to that bike. I know the Power Vision I upgraded to did. Just wanted to double check about your post to make sure the PC 5 could be reused on another bike.
