Has anyone else installed the V&H Super Radius with quiet baffles removed? I have had mine on for just over 10,000 miles, and a week ago I started hearing what I initially thought was a loose heat shield.
It started on the first day of a 3-day trip I was on with my HOG chapter. While on the road the first night, I loosened and re-tightened all the hose clamps for the four shields after the bike had cooled off. I fired it up and it was like hadn't done a thing, rattle was still there and seemed to be getting louder, but would quiet down and go away after the bike warmed up. I was stuck, not a dealer or Mechanic I trusted for 100's of miles from where we were. The bike however was running great, no loss of power, no stutter and would fire up on a cold start with no hesitation. So my next guess was it had to be a heat shield by the noise, and possible a broken weld where the hose clamps attach. So I continued on with my trip being constantly aware of the rattle at every stop. Well I got it home, and pulled off all the shields and inspected the hose clamp sleeves, and all were fine, with all the heat shields off, I decided to see if I could still hear the rattle. And sure enough it was rattling away with no heat shields on it. At that point I got even more nervous, as it was hard to tell exactly where the rattle was coming from, and it was right next to the transmission. So at that point I decided it was beyond my knowledge base and I took it into my dealership. Now my dealer did not install the exhaust header, nor is it exactly street legal in CA. so I wasn't sure what all they would / could do. I basically just wanted them to check the tranny and the motor to make sure they were ok, and they were. It turns out there is an internal baffle of something in the exhaust header that has come loose and is now rattling away in my $700 header. I have emailed Vance & Hines to start a warranty claim and see if I can get it replaced, Otherwise I am in the market for a new 2into1 header, as goind back to stock is just not an option.
Let me know if any of you have had any issues with this specific header, or if you have had any warranty claims with V&H and how well they went.
