WOW, that was the job from hell! The bars arrived today about 12:30, I already had the fairing apart, old bars off and the wiring ready to install, just finished about 10:30pm. I have to say the bars look great but if I ever get another bike and want those bars I'm paying someone to wire them. I was originally going to get the 10" bars but every thread I read people said go higher than you want, so after much debate I decided 12" was the highest I wanted to go so I didn't have to change the brake/clutch cables, the stock ones work but just barely. Looks like I made the right choice with 12's, the height is just right.

No pictures yet, the fairing is still off waiting on speakers (Thursday) then I'll put it back together and give it a good wash and take some.

Time for a beer.

Scott check and make sure the speaker trim doesn't touch your speaker cones as it will muffle the sound. The thick ring on them is the problem on some 6 1/2"

Scott, a little trick to do if your speakers do hit the grills is to install the speaker inside of the pod. That's what I did and it worked out great.

Scott14sg what's the worst part on the install??? Wildchld.. I had to split the clamshell and mount my Rockfords on the inside and ran a crisp bead of silicon to seal the 1/4" gap

Mojo- it is, my hands are killing me.

wildchld- will do, I ordered the new Biketronic speakers for the 14's so you remove the entire speaker pod and install their set up, I'll be sure to watch for how they fit against the grills, thanks!

bryan0994- these are the speakers, comes with its own bracket but if they hit the grill I'll keep that in mind although I dread putting those back in, those 3 lower bolts are a pain.

pappabear- worst part was the 3 lower bolts on the speaker pods and even worse was wiring the bars. Sometimes I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer so I do things the hard way. I didn't remove any connectors on the wiring, so I first installed the TBW (throttle by wire) lower wiring, then installed the hand control wiring on that side. The right side wiring took the longest, I think a few neighbors probably heard some choice words coming from my house ;) The left side wiring was easy and only took about 10 minutes but trying to get 2 wiring pieces into the left really tried my patience. I ended up cutting some of the wiring cover off of the 2 left harnesses and using weed eater, electrical tape to secure it and spraying Windex in the bars. This is definitely a job where you need to take your time and just walk away for a while when you get frustrated because even mother Theresa would get pissed off ;)

The other thing I've discovered is that the black cover for the ignition switch area needs a slight bit of trimming, I'll have to pick up a hand file today and I'll take a picture of what needs to be done, it actually hits the bars on a small spot.

Don't the "milk jugs" stiffen the fairing vs. the 13 that had the brackets?

pappabear- the pods probably do but from the looks of the biketronics mounts (metal) I think it will still be pretty sturdy, once they arrive I'll post up on how they are.

Yes the pods are also bracing the fairing, that's why they have about 8 bolts in it. It appears the biketronics kit is deleting the pod and replacing with a metal bracket. Scott we will need you to post some pics of this when you get it.

I love my Paul Yaffe bars I went with 14" to clear mirrors with 12" or lower you will need to mount mirrors so you can see. I decided to have someone do it because of the same issues you described! Love to see pics!

bryan0994- Will do, UPS usually gets here around noon so I'll install and get pictures up. Looking at the biketronics pictures it looks like the new brackets will mount in the same locations including the lower hard to reach spots, looks like they will keep things sturdy.

vannesb- Pictures of the bars as soon as I get it cleaned up. I put the seat on last night and checked to see if I could see out of my mirrors, looks like I'll keep my stock ones, just have to look under my arms instead of over, a test ride will confirm or not....I've already spent enough money ;)

I've got the 12" bars and I need to raise my elbow slightly to see under it when I want to use the mirror.

Way to go Scott14SG! Excellent choice too. I have 12" PYO MBB and they have completely change the ride for me! I posted up a bunch of pics of mine on the Vivid Black SGSin another thread: http://streetglide.com/showthread.php?1663-Apes-on-the-2014-SGS #16/#17 Best mod ever! Height is spot on for me and mirrors and I could not be happier!

Look forward to see in more pics of these things.

P.S. Been thinking about matching these bars with a pointed engine guard. If anyone has pics of that would love to see them!

thebackupninja- Thanks! I just put another 50 miles on to see how they feel and also see how the mirrors are, so far no issues and I don't have to move my arms at all to see out of them. Your pictures were among those that convinced me to go to the 12" bars.

Finally got everything put back together and washed the bike, what a project. So without further delay here's a couple pictures.

Lookin sharp! Did you go with namz plug and play wiring? Or another route?

Thanks Spazz, went with the 8" NAMZ extensions and they fit perfect. The only thing I might adjust is the clutch housing, right now I don't like the position it's in and will have to take the fairing off to possibly re-route the cable better.

If they are the plug and play... got a part number? Thanks..
