I have purchased Rinehart Classic True Duals for me 14 Street Glide.. was wondering if I need to get a tune for the bike as well? I plan on putting the pipes and an Air Cleaner on this weekend.. and am getting different suggestions/advise for the tune. I was told the stock computer will calibrate itself after 50 miles.. has anyone dealt with this? Any info appreciated!!!

A tune is highly recommended for your changes. There are many options and most all of them work OK. Search around a bit.

I went with the FP3 just for the convenience. that being said, I'm not looking to gt every drop of power out of my bike.

Thanks everyone for the feedback! First post on the site.. Just purchased my Street Glide 1 week ago. This site rocks! I will follow up with Fuel Moto. Just didnt plan on shoveling out another 500 dollars after buying the pipes. But seems everyone agrees that the stock computer does not calibrate itself with the new pipes. I want to follow up with the dealership and see what they have to say as well. I'll post what I end up doing.. thanks again

Although I didn't use Fuel Moto for this build, I highly recommend Jamie from past experience.

The dealer told me that I could swap pipes out to whatever I wanted without tuning but any change to the air intake would require a tuner. They said that applied to slip-ons or a full dual system.

Does that sound accurate?

Not really....

Adding just slip-ons with stock head pipe would be 'ok'.... Good for the bike? no..... Harleys run naturally lean from the factory. A full system I would not do without a tuner/AC since it will eliminate the cat and dramatically increase flow. Once you free up the exhaust decreasing back pressure, you need more air and fuel to richen things up. A lean running engine will run hot... hotter than it should which is never good. So now you need to get more air and fuel... hi flow AC will get you the air. But then you are stuck with hi flow IN the engine and hi flow OUT.. and you now NEED to increase fuel flow, spark advance etc... to get the air/fuel ratio correct for the new intake and exhaust. That is when you get a tuner to dial it all in. No one ever said it was cheap... that would be a lie.

Ever see a bike with pipes that are 'bluing'? Sometimes you see it right in the middle of a muffler... or near the header pipe collector ( not talking near the engine for this )... that is a tell-tale sign of a lean running bike... the discoloration is from the lean condition and the heat it causes.

Thanks spazz. Sounds like I have a lot of homework to do then. I used a thundermax on my Vrod and modded the pipes so this seems similar. I just need to study up what works on these twins before I start changing anything.

I'm always leery of dealer info.

Spazz is correct, see my mods below. I opted for a tuner/dyno after my True Duals and A/C

Ok hopefully someone can answer this question for me:
I got a dyno tune from my dealer about 2 weeks ago. Now everytime that we ride it just seems so F'ing hot! Now don't get me wrong i could feel some heat before the dyno but MAN its hotter than H#LL!!
Now i thought that after a dyno it would not run as hot let alone not hotter! Any help here would be nice seeing how i'm dropping it off at the dealer Monday night for my 5K service.
Thanks in advance!!
Scott

Just a BUMP..... I really could use an answer or comment before i drop off bike at my Stealership!!

thanks.

I have to ask a couple of question is the weather hotter now then before the dyno?? Did you put the new exhaust on before the dyno or did they put it on for you. Had a friend put on a freedom dual exhaust and the rear cylinder pipe comes out on the left side of the bike heating it up pretty bad. If it's running to hot it maybe leaned out way too much and this will cause whitish coloring on your exhaust tips. Black around tips means it's burning to rich. Just some things to look at not an expert by any means

And by the way my SG is a 2012...All of my upgrades were done October of 2012. I had them just do a base map at that time. Weather here is not as it would be in a normal year... Been very wet and just now starting to get humid today. I had oil coming out of the air cleaner last wednesday when i was stuck in rush hour traffic. It had never done that before the tune even when it was close to 100 degrees out. That day it did that it was only about 80-85 degrees. My dyno paper shows that the air fuel ratio is right on the line it says it should be.. I did get caught up in the Synthetic oil is better bulls#@t so i am having them change it back to the non synthetic fluids tomorrow when they do my 5K service.. Just wanted some imput from you guys weather i should complain that their "dyno tune" isn't right........
thats all i am looking for was some advice.. I am not a mechanic by any means so i am stuck with my dealer doing these things for me.. I am just not handy enough or have the tools to do these things myself.. If i tried i would end up having to have the dealer come trailer my bike to fix what i screwed up.....!

You would be surprised what you can do if you just put your mind to do it. I have been known to throw wrenches through the windshield when things weren't going right but I have learned to just stop and walk away and come back later. If you use a little thought and common sense you can do just about anything you want as simple as changing your own oil and filter or a spark plug and wire's. If you read what some of these guy's are tuning their bikes themselves without a dyno or dealer telling them what to do. Just get some advice when needed and trail and error from there on.
