FIRST... a BIG THANKS to Lindsey from www.ironacesspeedshop.com for coming through for me with a GREAT PRICE, FAST SHIPPING and SUPERB CUSTOMER SERVICE...

I am doing this to show that this can be done with minimal hand tools and some drive. Some might feel it's beyond them, but it's not....

The pipe was received in PERFECT shape. Packaging was well done and secure.

After reviewing the instructions, I started the teardown.

Remove your bags, passenger side floorboard, heatshields from OEM exhaust and slip-ons to gain full access to the headerpipe.

Remove the header clamp bolt under the transmission cover...

... the bolt and clamp for the cross-over pipe under the frame. Remove the pinch clamp and remove the cross-over pipe.

Remove the (4) header flange nuts from engine holding the header pipe to the jugs, it will stay there until you start to wiggle it... which you will do WITHOUT letting it fall. Once you pull it away from the jugs, support it and remove your O2 sensors and don't get them mixed up for re-install.

Everything should be clear now... slowly and carefully remove the header pipe from the sled. Lay it on something secure to remove the header flanges and circlips from the OEM header pipe and re-install them on the new header pipe. Lockring pliers ( if you have them ) or a flat tip driver works just as well... you may see a slight bevel in the circlip from the previous install due to pressure, this it OK, but if they are bent and/or distorted, replace them.

Remove the OEM header pipe bracket from below the transmission cover and install bracket #591 ( supplied ) Tighten using torque specs provided.

Once you do this, you spend a little time orienting the heatshield clamps to the heat shields of the new header to ensure you have access to tighten them... this is all explained in the instructions.

This is where you need to inspect the header gaskets in the jugs for any damage, cracks or severe wear. If they are suspect, replace them. Instructions give you the HD part number. Mine are fine.

Place the V/H header pipe on the sled carefully and support it. Orient the header pipe to the jugs using a supplied bolt through the #591 bracket below the trans cover.... this will allow you wiggle room to start the nuts on the header flanges LOOSELY on both jugs.

Following the instructions, with everything LOOSE assemble the rest of the pipe.

Once it's all in place... following instructions, tighten the header pipe bolts, the muffler clamp and then align all the heatshields. DO
NOT OVERTIGHTEN HEATSHIELDS AS IT WILL DISTORT THE FINISH ON THE CHROME. ( I did one too tight ) Last thing is the two bolts on the bottom by the trans cover... tighten them up...

Then install your O2 sensors.

Next is the spacer for the floorboard to ensure you have clearance... everything is supplied.. just follow directions... they are easy.

attachment.php

Then the spacers over the bolts on the floorboard... 2 on the front, 1 in the rear.... new bolts are supplied.

attachment.php

Once installed check for clearance... GOOD!

attachment.php

*** NOTE*** If you have your passenger pegs in any hole lower than the middle, you will have to move them up... the lowest hole will not allow clearance on the pipe.

Finally.... clean it all up REALLY good to remove any fingerprints, oils etc from the chrome.

*** ANY RESIDUE WILL CAUSE DISCOLORATION OF CHROME WHEN IT GETS HOT***

Once again... (I'm anal ) I checked for residue as well as fitment... I couldn't be more pleased at the quality and precise fitment characteristics...

The finished product...

Now time to download a new map with my FP3 and tune. There is an EXACT match of my setup, so I may run with it for while... then maybe an auto-tune for fine adjustments....

Sound Clip...

Hope I helped someone out and gave a little insight. The total process (with pics ) took me about 2-2.5 hours from start to finish....not too bad for an early morning job.

I bet you could have been done in about half the time if you didn't stop to take pictures of every step. lol

I was in to big of a hurry to take pictures during my exhaust install couldn't wait to hear it. ; )

Hows it sound, what you where looking for ?

floorboards !
You going to add extensions (soos or one of the others) or do you like them as is ?
I have the Soos kits and like the 1" move away from the bike.

Whats your next mod Spazz maybe grips ?

Whats that points cover say over and below the EGA ?

Disregard I think I know it has something off to the right as well.

I know next will be the fork fangs for sure... this grows and grows! LOL!
Eventually I will get the Yaffe 12" Monkey Bars with matching crash guard... LOVE THEM!!!
As far as grips... I am picky... I will have to really look into them when the time comes. I still have plasma rods to do... and other stuff for the audio.... just not rushing into anything head on yet.

I have to go back out to the garage and download the map before the testfire.... I know it will sound awesome.

I am going for performance more than looks of duals... I liked my dual Rhineharts, but knew from the jump it was either PowerDuals and CFR's ( way too much for complete setup for my wallet ) or 2-1 Pro Pipe....

To answer your question, Flatlander.... ( my Club Coin )

Be safe this weekend, Brother....

Well Spazz I'd have to say it's a little late to be saying "not rushing into anything head on yet" :D

I might not have seen it if you said but are you staying with the FP3 ?

Are you telling me that not everyone uses Lucas SWSM ?
I find that hard to believe.....
You would be surprised how well it works for $8 at Wally World. Go get some... you will throw half tje other crap on your shelf in the trash

yeah I know I do have some, guess its hard to type sarcasm. lol

Looks really good and sounds better. Can't wait to hear it in person.

Thanks for sharing the install that should help a lot of people get theirs done without paying a shop to do it. Have future plans for mine but will wait for the colder months to do it. I like my duals so staying that way and will add the V&N head pipes and a power commander with a dyno trip at street riders for my tune.
Not really wanting to get much louder have to wear ear plugs now and can't hear the stereo after a couple hours riding anyway.

Thanks Tom... I love it loud! LOL! Hit me up next time you're in town....

Thanks for the instructions Spazz. I am not as mechanical as I'd like to be and usually don't have the patience, so would probably have a shop do it for me. What made you go for the Pro Pipe over say Hi-Output SlipOns with a catted header? I think I like the look of the duals better, but just curious as to others thought process.

Thanks!

Performance gains over duals for the main reason....and the sound is awesome. I noticed a big gain in throttle and torque. .. it pulls a lot harder.

I had a decat header and rhineharts... I like the performance gains I have now.
