I've read the nightmares of cam chain pad tensioner wear and potential catastrophic failure on these engines. I'm now hearing there is no true fix on the 96 and 103 motors. I own a 2014 Street Glide. Is this a motor that will need expensive routine inspections/pad replacements that are not part of HD maintenance schedules?

Dr Len, I heard that HD went to hydraulic tension mechanisms and a higher output oil pump for the 96 CI engines. However, some forums are stating the longevity of the pads are increased but the design is far from the ideal set up in the evolution engine. What specifically do you know about the 103?

I haven't had my 103 apart but my 07 bagger with the 96 had the new set up and it is much better but they still have the tensioners in there just located in a different location so there isn't as much pressure I guess you would say
