FYI all-Latest issue of HOG magazine has an article on engine assembly. The pics make it look like these engines would all go together with a precision that would have them all producing the same amount of noise or no noise. However, we all know that's not the case. I have a friend who bought a 2015 Ultra recently and his engine noise is really bad-that being said, these air cooled dinosaurs seem to run a long time! Thankfully, mine is not noisy !

I corrected my noise issue by tightening EVERY single bolt associated with the exhaust shields. I did find some under the bike that were slightly loose. My engine is quiet, but I hear drivetrain whine. I think getting away from synthetics will stop this issue.

If I was looking for quiet I would have bought a Honda. I have also found that if you leave things like loose tools, coins, Poker run chips, cell phone and other small items in the saddle bags, this will also enhance your noisy ride experience..lol

I have owned 80, 88, 96 and 103ci Harley bikes. By far , the 103ci on my 14 SG makes the most noise from the engine and even more in the primary. It gets a lot hotter than the others too. I recently added a Lenale cooling fan which helped.

Bones, I'm with you. In fact I tightened up my exhaust bolts and then added another 12 point nut to each stud. No more loose exhaust bolts!
