I want my new 2014 Street Glide to sound like a Harley and not a sewing machine. What is the best new pipes to truly duel and the best mufflers to give me that awesome Harley rumble? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Everyone is going to have their own answer to this.

However, I didn't buy any pipes, instead I just cut out the baffles and pulled out the fiberglass in the stock pipes. Sounds pretty good to me, and it didn't cost me a thing.

Tools list:
Dremel
Pliers for bending cones so they fit coming out
Long stick to loosen fiberglass inside mufflers
BBQ paint to clean up the look afterward

I agree, sound/rumble is one of the most personal issues there is imho. I went with VH true duals with twin slash slip ons. I like it load when I'm "gettin'" it but toned down when I want it quieter. I also didn't want a headache when I get off. I would recommend going to an event and listen to several to get an idea.

I agree on the too loud part. You need to get out there and hear a few bikes with different combos.
I went with Bassani true duals and Rinehart 4" mufflers. Old style set up. No under frame cross over.

I like the sound and price of your idea! Sounds like a bargain, though your and my time also has value.

But my question is, did you have to have the bike retuned? I would think any modification that reduces restriction in any way should effect output? How loud is the bike now compared to stock? Is it "manageable" or obnoxious?

I didn't cut out the cat, so it's not really too terribly loud. But you will definitely be heard. Night and day difference compared to stock. Nice rumble at idle, decent bark when you open it up a bit.

I didn't tune mine after either, but I probably could do with it. I don't notice any abnormalities to the way it runs. There are the occasional pops, but not often enough to bother me. I actually kinda like them, to be honest.

I did the cats on mine, using a hammer-drill and a long pry bar and then put on some Screamin' Eagle Street Cannons. It's fairly quite except when you get on it, then it gets nice and loud. Cruising is nice as you can still hear the rumble but its not obnoxious. I kept the OEM air cleaner and after talking to my dealer, probable won't get a tune unless heat is an issue. The new OEM air cleaner is almost a stage one as is. I get a little back-pressure from my pipes which gives me that popping noise on decel but again, he was telling me unless I'm taking it to the track, it won't hurt anything.

I had drilled out my baffles. Thought it sounded good until someone else rode my bike. Then it sounded like a big hollow tinny sound. Didn't like it at all.

I too went with the Freedom Slip Ons ... they sound great, wish I had more time to ride with them but the winter set in right after i put them on. There was no need to tune anything either, just install and go.
