2014 SGS - 1st Gear Whine and Whistle - Anyone else notice this from 2500-4000 RPM?

My 2010 SG did not have any noise from the engine / transmission except for the typical engine noise ticking away.

This new SGS whines loudly especially in 1st gear - I can hear it a bit in 2nd also, but it is not loud like in 1st gear. If anyone has an ATV with a belt drive, it sounds like that whine. I took it back to the dealer right away, and they said you only have 112 KM on it, go ride it and get it broke in 160KM then come tell us about the noises and other discomforts. Not what I wanted to hear.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Mine makes a lot of noise also been wondering about that.

I put redline v-twin transmission oil with shockproof in the transmission. Makes neutral easy to find and it quiets the whine considerably. Killer Creek Harley Davidson in Atlanta highly recommended it. I ask about waiting for 5000 mile break-in. They said install ASAP to save wear. Big improvement. Transmission holds 1 qt.

Mine has always had a first gear whine. I think its fairly common

No transmission noise I can hear over my street cannon exhaust, through a full helmet, with ear plugs, and I'm outa 1st gear in less than a second.

Same here no whine I can hear but also shift out 1st pretty quick.

I have a 14 that has a loud whine in 1st and 2nd. I'm getting close to my 1000 mile check up, I'm gonna see what they say at X2 Cycle in Greensburg PA.

I have had the whine since day one... all my shifting is done around 3500 rpms and up...cuz I can...

I think the Red Line and Bel Ray must be using similar ingredients as I've notice a "slight" positive difference.

I spoke with a few folks - they said most people put pipes on right away and do not notice this "normal" transmission noise. My 2010 SGS was rode right out of the shop with pipes, the 14 pipes are on back order so I have been riding it all stock. Might be some validity to that aspect.

I will let HD do the first service at 1600KM, then I will be putting all Amsoil in it. Not sure how that measures up to the Redline; however, I have ran the Amsoil in my 10 SG for all the 50,000 KM's and it ran perfect - x2 on shifting and finding neutral is much easier once you get that HD crap oil out of the bike

Thanks for all the replies - Cheers

Same whine here since I drove it off the lot. Didn't really think twice about it. Had the 1k mile service done last week and asked about it...said it was normal. With Syn3 in her now, it's still slightly noticeable, but shifts are much smoother and neutral is a ton easier to find. I'll chalk it up as 'normal,' and under warranty.
