Has anyone use line level converters in their bike? I want to plug my speaker lines to the converter then rca connectors to the amp. I already have 2 amps but one of them does not have the speaker level connectors. I have an nvx driving my front kappas and I have a rockville f20 to drive my rear kickers. I dont have the big bucks to install the premade kits that are out there. I have done line converters in cars but have heard nothing about people trying them in a harley.
Thanks in advance
Shaun

If you don't know... you need to flash your head unit for a flat EQ curve to run after market amps. our HU's have built in amplifiers ( Digital Signal Processers) that change the EQ curve with volume settings.

The DSP in the unaltered state ( Stock flash ) will greatly reduce the performance of any amp that is just hooked up and not configured properly... in reality, you are amplifiying a boosted signal.

That being said.... the best line levelers out there are made by Biketronics. BT line levers work better than most out there. You may get away with using these on your system and it will sound better.. .but much more can be had if you have the correct flash for your head unit.

Yes sir I had the flash done and my front works great! I was going to run another amp that has no speaker level lines which means i need to use rca connectors from amp. I recently bought advan speaker lids and 2 6x9 kickers ps40692

Spazz,

I have a 15 Street Glide and I went with the hook up from No Cage Audio, I used the BT line leveler out the front channel with (2) Arc Audio speakers in the fairing and (2) Polk audio 6x9's in the bag lids powered by the Moto 600.4 channel amp without the flash and it sounds pretty good. Are you saying it will sound better if I get the flash?

I can't say I have heard line levers personally... that being said... Karl at Nocage Audio sells systems that don't require a flash... the line Levelers are designed to combat the EQ curve of the head unit before it's amplified and work well.

I prefer the flash over line Levelers because you are flattening the EQ curve at the source... thus you are not 'filtering' a signal.

Will it sound better? I can't honestly tell you either way... I wish I could though... I have some audio shop owners that I deal with that tell me flash is the best way to go to get the best performance... but you use have the correct flash for your conponents... and that my friend, can be the tricky part.

Guy's,

I don't think there is any doubt that a HD Headunit flashed to completely flat would provide a better baseline to build your system around. Now that RF and a couple of other companies have come out with their own "Flash" tools there are different sled audio companies that are offering this service.

What's worrying me is the Warranty side of putting an aftermarket "Flash" on the HD headunit. If the headunit failed with a aftermarket flash in it, would HD stand behind it? I don't know and with the cost of of these units that could be a serious financial risk.

I bought one of the RF flash tools, but after some serious consideration I decided not to do the flashes. I know that using a BT line leveler or other device downstream of the headunit will never give HD a reason to dis-allow a warranty claim for a headunit that goes bad.

Does using a Line leveler leave a little bit on the table vs a flat flash? Maybe so, but you can still get a killer system with a line leveler and as for myself and No Cage Audio the piece of mind that we are not risking our customers warranty is more important to us.

Good points Karl....thanks for chiming in

I do want to follow up with if you get your bike flashed at a HD dealer, then I don't see any way they could deny a headunit warranty claim. The dealer I deal with most (Longhorn HD) tells me they will no longer flash the 2017 Harleys and they won't tell me why, just that they won't flash the 2017 models. My personal opinion is that it is an effort to push more Boom Audio sales and offer less options to the aftermarket Sled stereo guys.

BTW...my opinion and $5.00 will get you a Large Coffee at Starbucks ;)
