2nd gen boom audio

I've got a bro in Louisiana with a 15 roadglide and boom 2 with amp...I wasn't impressed. I think they are still working out the kinks. Probably needs a re flash. I will have the J&M Rokker xx stuff this weekend...I'll let y'all kno what my results are. Tried focal and alpine amp on last bike and ended up using stock speakers till they burnt up and going with hog tunes speakers...loud but no dynamic range or warmth. Fingers crossed for the jm kit....I'm sure I'll be happy

element80- I'm almost complete in my J&M install right now. I did the 250 watt bagger kit. I still have to get the dealer to do the radio download when finished.

Note: I took Spazz's advice on getting his dealer to do the download free. I talked with my service mgr and he's going to match it !

In regards to the new Boom ll system shutting off or having intermittent sound. John at J&M also mentioned it in his testing. My HD Service mgr states Harley knows about it and its designed to do that to cool off the speakers as they overheat. I have not heard of this before.

element80- On J&M's site there is a bulletin on there on how to drill some small holes in the speaker housing to assure cooler running speakers. I did that as its pretty easy, here's the link:

Jmjohn said i wouldnt need to have the radio flashed...how do you like the kit? was it easy to install?

element80- Perhaps we have different Kits from J&M.

I have the RXEK-250SP2-14SG kit.
Its instructions sayto flash the ECM (4 or 8 SPEAKERS, AMPS 1&2 OFF, Enable Fader). In my case with just 2 fairing speakers with tweeters that's the 4 speaker setting. If you're not adding an Amp there is probably no ECM adjustment necessary. I'm in Los Angeles till Friday. I hope to get it finished by Saturday then I can report the outcome.

So I am interested in finding out what's up....I didn't buy the Streetglid Special - just the standard model so I have the 4.3 radio....

also asked him:

"... one last question, is the 6.5gt version of the radio better than my little 4.3? would i notice a difference in audio?

thanks again.

trey"

so I am thoroughly confused...maybe he will respond to this thread

Looks to me like a conflict of information here so I would have him figure it out soon so your guys get the best sound.

No conflict for my system. I have the 6.5 system and the kit I previously mentioned. I talked with John specifically about this and got the answer that pertains to my setup.

guys,,,,,,

we have spent the last 2 weeks going back & forth to our Harley dealer flashing radios, I am almost blue in the face with this ,,,,,,,

but it was necessary to learn exactly what are Harley's LATEST equalization and output settings for both of their radios, that their digital technician computer is flashing, because it IS different than a year ago ,,,,,,

based upon our most recent experience, here is what we now recommend ,,,,,, whether using J&M Amplifiers or another brand ,,,,

and the reason for flashing for 4 or 8 speakers is so that if you want to add another set of speakers to your bike in the future, you don't need to go back and have it flashed again ,,,,

Thanks for your reply John seemed like there was a little confusion. This should clear it up in a hurry.

Jmjohn, so did anything change for the 180w 2 channel amp, I know you said before that I don't need the radio flashed. I have the 6.5 radio, I just received my amp yesterday, hopefully I can get it in soon.

This should clear it up alright. Thank you Mr. jmjohn

+ 1 Thx John. I'll be posting a review in the next week or so. You have been a big help as I traversed these slopes between Mfg's and my wallet !

I also hope to have the comparison video Part#4 ,,, Harley Booom II vs J&M ROKKER XX EXTREME on our you-tube site by early next week at the latest ,,,,

i saw that. decided against it. my directions talked about drilling holes to route more speaker cable for some unknown reason. ..guess it wasn't necessary.

..im still in middle of install. ..did boom amplified antenna, fairing bra, and gloss black lower fairing skirt. ...the fairing bra is going to take awhile. ..we are abnormally cold here in tx so bettor the outer fairing and bra inside to warm up

hope to get everything put together tomorrow night...im getting married 3/7 and riding to Daytona for the honeymoon...cant wait to test out the upgrades

hopefully i get over this cold and survive my bachelor party and the weather improves

element ,,,,,,

the ROKKER XX EXTREME kit from J&M has the separate wire harness going to the J&M tweeters only on our ROKKER XX fairing speakers ,,, driven from the input side of the J&M amplifier ,,,, that is what the (lousy) instruction addendum is about when drilling an extra set of holes in the speaker pods to run those wires,,,,,
