Ok, as background I have a Boom Audio Stage 1 setup with fairing and saddlebag speakers and the amp. I had the issue that many have had with my audio cutting out sporadically and was told it was most likely the amp clipping from being overloaded. After bringing it to several dealership's attention, I finally called Harley customer service and was told they released an amp update two weeks ago that was supposed to fix the problem. Of course that sounded good to me, so I took my bike to a dealership and got them to update my amp and radio. I was told the update went well and all should be good now. But as soon as I started my bike and got on the road I noticed a very big difference: my audio volume was half of what it was previously. I used to be able to turn my volume only a couple notches above half way at highway speeds and would be able to hear my music perfectly. Now I have it only a notch or two from full blast to get it close to the old cruising volume. The first thing I thought was that they didn't turn the amp back on; that maybe I was running off the radio internal 25 watt amp. I called the dealership and they said nope, that they had done everything correctly. It also seems like my speed volume control doesn't work correctly and that when I turn the bike off with the radio on the volume actually gets louder....not just because the engine is off, I can hear a distinct difference.
Has anyone else had an issue like this? Could it be that Harley decreased the amp output to compensate for the overload, thus cutting the advertised output? If so I'm pretty pissed off after spending so much money! I wish I hadn't updated anything and just dealt with the audio cutting out!
