Greetings All!

I upgraded to the Boom Audio fairing speakers and added Boom lid speakers without an amp on my 13 SG this past spring. It sounds pretty dam good at idle but on the highway, I can barely hear the lid speakers.

I was wondering if any of you did the same upgrade but added the HD amp, and is it worth the $$$...???

Thanks in advance for your responses.

anything over 25 mph, you will not hear the lids.... i have 600 watts and lose my lids at 25....

Ok thanks Spazz, the dealer was really trying to push the HD amp when upgrading. The service guy told me that my factory radio only pushes 20 watts total, leaving only 5 watts per speaker!

Then I told him the parts catalog states the 4-channel Harmon/Kardon factory radio pushes 20 per channel, so how will only 5 watts get to each speaker, he says, "you will tell once you get on highway." I told him I'll pass on a $600+ amp/install they may or may not work on the highway. I knew he was full of s#@!

An amp would still be better than 20 watts per channel- not sure the Harley amp is worth $600 though.

I was able to score a new pair of Boom 6.5 stage 1 upgrade fairing speakers which were take offs from a CVO. Paid $100 and they work great with the stock radio with no amp. Quite an improvement over the smaller stock speakers even at freeway speeds.
