Changing front fork internals

Hi guys. I'm about to bite the bullet on a set of Ohlins fork internals - FKC-102. Am I right in thinking that I only need to remove the dash panel to get access to the top of the forks, rather than remove the whole batwing?

Thanks. And if anyone has already done this sort of work and can give me advice on avoiding unpleasant surprises (often called "Ping! ****!!" moments here in England) I'd be very grateful

On my '12 it was the ignition switch and dash panel to drop the tubes.
