Is there a number to call? I'm trying to figure out some of the little annoyances of the new bike and the dealer doesn't have any idea what I'm talking about. The two questions I have so far are....

(1) The EQ map on the radio clearly changes when you shut the bike off. It's not the AVC and it's not the Hogtunes amp. It has done this since day one. I think it's normal. Since the audio dynamics change when going down the road, it makes sense that they would adjust the EQ to compensate. The problem I see is that when going down the road, bass response diminishes because of road noise, etc. The change to the EQ is actually reducing bass response when the engine is started, making the sound worse instead of better while under way. I need to either leave the EQ map on the engine off setting or pump up the bass when the engine is running.

The dealer is blaming everything that is not factory HD, like the Hogtunes amp, even though a brand new bike does exactly the same thing. I'd like to find out definitively if the bike does use 2 different EQ mappings for engine off/engine on and if so, can that be modified. Armed with that info, I can go to the dealer and have them do what I want done.

(2) I hope not to be trailering too often, but I'd like to get transport mode figured out. I go through the motions and the bike responds as the manual says it should, but the alarm does not disable. Dealer even tried it on a another bike and they couldn't get it to work either. I'm not too worried about this one. Plenty of people have told me to pull the maxi fuse on the trailer.

Or just throw the fob in the saddlebag when it is along for the ride on #2.

Doesn't work on '14 and '15. I've heard that the security system is still active and if it senses motion with the ignition being off for a period of time, the security system will still go off. Those are the sorts of things I need to verify with HD tech support. The dealer doesn't have any idea how the system works and when I tell them that I read it on the internet, they just walk away.

The last trailer ride I put it in transport mode and left the FOB with the bike, and after 10 hours the battery was still too low to start the bike.

Plus 1 on the FOB in bag while trailering. The alarm is still active some way.. Killed my battery on a 14 hour tow down to S Carolina.

That's not good. I had planned on doing just this and had read elsewhere that it was the thing to do. I am going to keep following this and doing some of my own research too. I think I will go home and put the fob in there and then just push the bike down the street a ways to see what happens.

I was just reading somewhere else to turn the ignition to on and pull the maxi fuse, anyone on here think that will work?

Ignition ON and pull fuse. This works as I do it when removing battery cables(this triggers the alarm)

You are correct about the audio pull the more volume you give it it loses more bass. You can fix that with a flash. There are many out there, along with a lot of opinions on what is the best.

For me J&M's give you the best sound and options plus a working fader but shouldn't use AVC.

After flashing do a pre-cal reset.

Turn your RUN button ON.... PRESS AND HOLD your MUTE button on the radio

Turn your IGN to ON... WAIT for the confirmation msg... CONFIRM and release the MUTE button

Scroll down to pre-cal reset

Not sure if I can use a J&M flash. Don't they turn off the amp and output preamp only from the radio? The Hogtunes amp takes a speaker level input, hence, no flash required to make it work. I understand why the reduce bass. As you go faster, you have to turn it up, and if you didn't reduce bass, you'd blow the stock speakers into next week. Can I just tell the dealer to turn that "feature" off? I think if it just maintained the same EQ that it has when the engine is off, it would be fine.

I already had a conversation with them about this and they told me that the bike does not change the EQ based on engine on/off or speed. They said all it does is change the volume if you have AVC set. I know i'll get some resistance over this. The fact that they don't even know how the system works would lead me to believe that they probably have no idea how to change it.

From what I've come up with, this is the only reliable way of making sure your battery survives the trip. Turn IGN to on (with the FOB present) and pull the fuse. Not sure about reversing the process though. I know the FOB has to be present, but not sure if you would leave IGN on while reconnecting the fuse or turn it off. I'd be nervous about reconnecting the fuse with IGN on.

I just trailered my bike for 6 hours and used the disarm function.....switch to ign, press both turn signals together for 1 second and then turn the ignition off....system disarmed as evidenced by 3 flashes.....no alarm/flashing lights or drained battery on the trip.....Hmmmm.

OK...So I just looked at the card in the manual and it DOES NOT match the procedure the dealer printed and gave me. Here's what they printed....

1) Ignition to IGN
2) STOP/RUN to STOP
3) Ignition to ACC
4) Press both turn signals (Makes turn signals flash twice, should be three times)
5) Ignition to OFF (Makes turn signals flash two more times, should be three times)

After doing this, the alarm is still active.

The cards says....

1) Ignition to IGN
2) Before security light goes out, turn ignition to OFF
3) Press both turn signal switches. Both signals flash.

I'll try what the card says tomorrow. That's probably why it wasn't working.

The card is what I did and worked for me!!

Sure wish HD would get all their dealers on the same page. This is why they need a direct number. Getting a straight answer from the dealers is impossible.

I am old enough to remember whan you couldn't talk directly to computer manufacturers (PC's) when they first hit the market. If you called directly to IBM/Compaq or Apple in those days you were simply reffered to the closest dealer to your Zip Code......and the support was terrible, pretty much like the comments here about dealers.

As Harley moves into the electronic age hopefully they will take a lesson from the high-tech manufacturers. Of course the dealers will push back but then again there needs to be a technical resource out there other than user forums like this one.

For instance if you buy (arguably) the most technology advanced car in the market today, a Tesla; you deal directly with the company when you have an issue.....friend of mine just bought one and they have a special number to call if they have ANY issues.......after the first call they register your number and the next time you call you get a "Hello Mr. Smith, how can we assist you today"........the technology exists so it's not a question of being able to do it it's a question of being WILLING to help customers.......in the long run most manufacturers realize that it's much cheaper to do this directly than to try and train a dealer newtwork that is subject to turnover not to mention the fact that the customer service component goes WAY up when there is such a resource......just sayin' :D

This forum is a much better and more reliable source of information than the dealer. It shouldn't be that way. If HD wants to lay all support on the dealer, they need to make sure the dealer knows what they are talking about.

Thats good to know as I have trailered mine for 8 hours with just the fob near the bike and the battery was fine...may have been lucky! I will disarm on next trip but what is the procedure to re-activate the alarm upon arrival or does it automatically go back into security mode when the bike is started?
Thanks

Yeah it automatically back to normal as long as you have the fob with you when you turn the ignition on.
