2014 SG. Left the ignition ON a couple days ago. Totally dead, absolutely no lights anywhere. Trying to hook up a charger, can't get near the posts. Tried going to the starter post and ground? Thinking a junk charger.

Any advice?

Pull the battery..it's the best way. DON'T CHANCE TRYING TO GET CLIPS IN THERE

Honestly, these batteries are hard to charge when completely dead. You can do it but you need to take the battery out and trickle charge it for at least 24 hours or buy a new one.

Dead battery!

The 2014 and up SGS has a battery tender lead already installed at the factory. It's underneath the left side body panel that sits just at your left thigh. You'll have to carefully dig around the area beneath the Maxi-Fuse to locate the plug. Most probably reposition it just outside the cover for ease of use as needed.

Thanks, a quick google indicated that but I couldn't determine if it was an add-on or factory. Add to the fact that I had a very limited window of opportunity to dig further.

I've never been able to get a dead battery to hold a charge. It will appear to be charged. It will start the bike, but when you get to where you're going, it won't have enough to start the bike. I just replaced my third battery.

Third battery? Not what I wanted to hear! Will have a little time, and a meter, this afternoon to look deeper into this issue.

Is the ground point easily accessible? I can't get my battery charger clamps onto the posts that well and not sure if I have the connector for the charger pigtail. (Used to have one of them tenders that had both connectors but it got wet and went bye-bye!)

When I bought mine last March and trailer it home, the battery was dead. Had Harley pick it up and they changed for 3 days.. been good ever since..

You can charge it by connecting + to the starter lug and - to an engine ground. First time was right after buying the bike. It went dead on the trailer. It wasn't completely dead but still wouldn't hold a charge. Second time was just from sitting for a few winter months. Again, not totally dead, but wouldn't hold a charge. Third was after installing the Metra radio kit. It drained the battery flat and wouldn't take any charge at all.

I've got the charger hooked directly to the battery now and it's showing 13.6 volts. Not enough to turn her over just yet but keeping my eye on it. Not sure if this charger is any good either. Some dumb ass my Bride sleeps with left the chargers out under the porch and the weather/rain/snow got at them. Time will tell. Sure hope I don't have to drop a big chunk of drinking money on a new battery!

Check it for amperage under load.. that's what you need to crank. You can show voltage and have super low amps... battery is toast at that point

Now that was funny.... and something I can relate to! Ha

The problem is that when you kill it dead, it can kill a cell or 2 permanently. The other cells will charge showing good voltage on the battery, but without all of the cells working together, there's not enough current to start the bike. Hopefully that's not the case.

So after 22 or so hours of a slow trickle charge (got 12.8 V) I set it to quick-start and it fired right up. Removed the charger and checked again, charging about 14.6V and the gauge indicated 14+ as well.

Time will tell, leaving for school shortly and keeping fingers crossed that not only does it crank over when I leave, but more importantly at 9pm tonight!

Thanks for all your help.
